Columbia

I would really appreciate it if you guys gave me your opinion on my chances at these schools. I would really appreciate it and if you guys want chances I will chance you back.

bummmmmmmmp. plz guys

Do you have any safety schools?

The top UCs are reaches. Without your UC GPA it’s hard to know how much of a reach. If your UC GPA IS 4.0 or higher, Davis is a match.

HYSCB are unrealistic reaches.

For the others we would need to know rank. Your school will give colleges enough info to know where you rank. If you’re at least top 10% and can raise the SAT to 2150 plus, you could have a shot at CMC level schools.

NYU is closest to being a match, but only if you can afford it.

very good chances at irvine/davis. with sat score higher, SD and LA would be good shots as well. good luck.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000699-please-chance-worried-student.html</a></p>

My UC GPA is 4.22 if they weight all my honors and AP Courses.
If they only weight 8 semesters and cap the weighted GPA, it would be 4.02 weighted and 3.73 unweighted.

Im probably in the Top 10 percent and my safeties are Santa Clara or Davis.

Thanks for your post.

Davis is a match and you have a strong shot, but it isn’t safe. Nor is SC, and since they don’t meet need you would have to afford to be full pay for it to be a safety with any stats.

Thank you for your insight Redroses.
I was wondering based on my standings I feel I have strong EC activities. The only thing holding me down right now is my low SAT score.
Do you think I have a good chance of LA or Berkeley if I raise my SAT score to 2150+.
I feel that my 2 essays will be pretty strong, I have a rigorous senior year schedule and I have a upward trend in my grades.

Berkeley - reach. Your GPA and SATs are just low for Berkeley.

I don’t know how much help would it give you when you retake SATs because Berkeley does not superscore SATs. Maybe scoring extremely high on ACT would do. A great EC would help even more. Good luck!

Would need to know your UC GPA. Some honors classes are weighted while others are not.

Average UC GPA is about 4.2 at Cal and LA. Average SAT is 2050. Cal is not nearly as hard to get into as RML insists!

OP,

If you would listen to Redroses, chances are, you’d end up quite frustrated when the admission results are out next year.

The admission system at Berkeley is different from the admission system of most top private schools. And, more importantly, you also need to know that the admission standard of Berkeley today is quite different from that of years ago.

Redroses’ knowledge of Berkeley’s admission standard is obsolete.

If you want to know how you would fare against berkeley’s intake for this year, here’s the link to that:

http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp</a></p>

I was a college counselor in CA one year ago. Can we get your credentials, other than being a Berkeley ■■■■■, RML?

^Regardless of UC GPA, the OP lacks a significant amount of ap’s. How many ap’s does your school offer wadeformv3? How is your scheduled compared to others at your school? Not to be mean, but all the ivies you mentioned (and duke) are significant reaches. I would try to find more matches. Here’s some matches below that I hope you consider,
UMich
Vandy(reach but not significant)
Northeastern
UMiami

Redroses, you can’t be serious when you said you’re a college counselor. You know very little about some of the things you’re saying.

RML, having read many of your posts and understanding the source, I take absolutely no offense.

There is something truly strange about someone being a ■■■■■ for a school they did not attend. I know your wife attended, but what drives you to want to make kids believe Berkeley is more difficult to get into than it is?

Redroses, you have not been admitted into one of the top schools you’ve been advising kids to get into. You have not experienced the things I have gone through when I applied and gotten accepted or rejected.

The kids that come here to seek for advice are serious. You are not. Your guidance to some of the kids that come here is terrible. Please show them some deal of respect.
A lot of kids are aspiring to win a slot at a top school like Berkeley. They try very hard to win a place in their dream school. Berkeley rejects many very smart kids. Last year alone, over 30k smart kids were rejected at Berkeley, seven of them I happen to know personally are extremely smart kids that won a place at Columbia, UPenn and Duke. You won’t help them by giving them wrong advice, false hopes and assurances. You’re lying to these kids who come here to seek for an honest-to-goodness advice.
You are a ■■■■■ and you know that. Berkeley does not have a 50% admit rate. And so many talented kids are rejected there. I have shown you facts to support my claim. You, on the other hand, have shown nothing but flame-baiting and erroneous facts.

Thank you everyone for your opinions.
I feel like my ECs are strong. Co-founder of 2 clubs. President of one, treasurer of another.
Also an international organization where i was a panel leader and one of the major factors in helping raising money to donate to build a school in Africa. Along with a 4.22 GPA and maybe a 2150+ SAT score and i think my essays are pretty good would UCLA and UCB still be a reach?

and theRADtomato97 my school offers around 20 APs. I took 1 honors course sophomore year, 3 honors courses and 1 AP junior year. And am taking 3 APs and 2 College level classes per quarter senior year. Would that be a strong schedule.

bummmp plz

If you would have that, you’d have a good fighting chance for the College of Arts and Sciences (L&S) at Berkeley.

thanks RML
ya thats what im applying for. not going for engineering hahaha more of a law type of person.
But do you think i would have a good shot for LA?
