Chances University Of Michigan Ann Arbor

This is more of a general question if I can I get into any competitive colleges for engineering. I am even debating of applying out of state. I live in Michigan

I am currently in a pre engineering high school program, technically manufacturing focused. I am also taking courses in a community college.

In regards to that, my high school offers all community college courses for free during high school. We can take quite a few credits, and they support a program that allows a 13th year with college paid for at the local community college. So I could easily go to that community college for free, and there is a “2 years at this community college and 2 years at a well known engineering school” program I could enter. I either want to go into electrical, environmental, or chemical engineering

I still need to start applying and getting ready for everything, but school seems so chaotic. Plus I could just attend the community college if wanted, and it is pretty challenging.

I am applying to see if I could receive any full rides or merit scholarships, but I do not think my score is high enough for that. I may retake in november, and actually study for the test next time, or try to bring up my 27 in math and return my english score.

On another note, is there any chance for me to get any full rides with scores that low? I will create another thread later.

I plan to attend in State in Michigan. I will apply to most good colleges and by that I mean Michigan State, U of M ann Arbor, Kettering, Michigan Tech, Lawrence, Northern, maybe LSSU

also Alma, Kalamazoo, free application

Try to bring up your ACT score if you can. How is the score break down? UMich does not superscore while most schools do not superscore ACT anyway. Your current ACT score is below the mid 50. Also, is your GPA weighted or unweighted?

Our School does not weight our gpa’s. That is a totally foreign concept to me, i received a 92 in Pre Calc during my sophomore year, and that is why it is a 3.99 . I have a 4.0 gpa at the community college.

Well. I was a little disappointed in my score this time around, but It is completely understandable. I received a 28 on my first test.
This included a
28 english
25 math
32 reading
27 science
10 writing

My second test, this september, I received a 30 overall.I took it without writing by accident, but that is okay
26 english - really surprised I went down by two points.
27 Math- Well everything is evened out. I am in Calc 3 through a local community college, so most of this math is a hazy memory,
35 reading- very surprising
32 Science- a good improvement
30- stem, however I do not know how that factors into the score
No writing

Your Math section score is going to hurt you more than the composite school for CoE at UMich. The mid 50 was 32-35 in 2013 and 31-35 for 2014. With Math section score at 27, your chance is really very low. Nevertheless, you may consider a transfer route, for instance, through the Flint campus.

Really low for in-state. I have heard of people getting in with a 25 act, granted they may have gotten higher math scores. How is this possible?

First of all, 25 ACT getting in CoE is highly unlikely even from in state. Even a student with 3.8+ GPA and ACT 33 from in state got rejected this year. Unless you are talking about many years ago or something has very good SAT score at the same time. Math section score is very important for CoE. A girl with legacy and ACT 29 did get in last year.

Not really that recently ago. Although it was 4 years ago. He was accepted into the engineering school with a 3.5 gpa and a 25 act score. At my high school, which is very small (under 80), at least 10-12 students get accepted. Granted, there scores ranged from 28-32. Most had 29 scores, but most did not apply to the engineering school. At my technical engineering high school program- separate from my home school, out of 30 kids about 7 got accepted. The average score there would be about a 29 from the applicants. Each had similar or lower stats compared to mine.

Also even if my math act score is low, doesn’t it show something if I have already aced calc 1,2, and am currently acing calc 3. I will also take diff eq next semester. Isn’t college level math completion more important than the act evaluation, which predicts college performance?

Sorry to doubt you, but I would like more people to contribute to validate your position, not that I do not believe your position is untrue. I think it is a little easier to get in for in-state than what you think, but what do I know.

Note that there is a big difference in admission rate in the last 4 years. For 2011, the CoE admission rate was slightly over 40% (3296/8040). It was even over 50% in 2010. Last year, it was below 28% (3489/12607). This year (2015) it should be further closer to 20% but the data is not out yet. As I said, an in state student with 3.8+ GPA and ACT 33 from one of the feeder school in Ann Arbor got rejected this year. CoE has around half of the students from in state.

So, good luck to you.
