GPA uw: 3.6
3.76 not including freshman year
SAT: 2300
Native American Male from Rural North Carolina

Chances for:
All IVIES
Duke
Georgetown
JHU
UNC
TUFTS
CARNEGIE M
And safety's

Undecided major
Another unique thing is that Brown,Penn,Duke,UNC,Georgetown, tufts and a few others try and get 8-12 students from my school.
Like a kid from my school got into tufts with a 3.3. My school is very well known and many top schools want students from here.

ECS are 3 Varsity sports
4 years of V SOCCER
3 YEARS OF V BASEBALL AND TRACK
4 Years of Duke bioscience and engineering camp.
4 years of duke young writers camp
Super camp at brown and Stanford
And service trips to Laos
Awards are still pending. But I've gotten all conference in track.
All 5s and 4s in my Aps
I self studied macro out of interest

My biggest strengths are test scores,URM, and how my school has a partnership with most if the schools I'm applying to, like we are the only chain that has partnerships with them and they try and enroll 8-12 from my chain of schools

So what are my chances?

Hmmm, your gpa doesn’t look like what I’ve seen from people getting in there, meaning (4.0+) But I honestly think you have a pretty decent shot. Considering how your school has a reputation. Also since you’re loaded with extra curriculars, especially those at universties will stand out. Your Ap scores are up there and so is your SAT. I honestly think you have a really good shot, just make sure your essays are good.

Ivies: reach
Duke: low reach, aided by ECs
Georgetown: low reach
JHU: low reach
UNC: low reach
Tufts: match
CM:match

Your school sounds a lot like my boyfriend’s. He scored around a 3.3 GPA at a top five private high school and now goes to Hamilton College. Pretty much 50% of the graduating class ends up at Ivies or Williams. I think you’ve got the URM and feeder school aspects going for you. Keep working hard, get great grades this coming year, work on your essay, and I think you’ve got a good shot.

Care to chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1512162-chance-transfer-poor-grades-mcgill-will-chance-back.html

Thanks and I will chance you as soon as I get home. Any other opinions?

You have a decent shot at most of these schools, considering that you have a 2300 on the SAT and that youre a URM. I would try to make something on your application besides your race become a hook. Because you have all the stats you need (even though your gpa is slightly low - but I’m sure the difficulty of your hs outweighs it) so now all you need is something in addition to your race that sets you apart from everyone else. May that be essay, ECs is up to you. But you must stand out. CLEARLY lol.

Chance back?

You should have no problems getting into UNC

Thank you any other ideas??

From what I have seen, your EC’s and SAT make up a lot for your GPA, which is good but below average for Duke acceptances. My school is a bit different though, as the average unweighted is around 3.65.

I would say:

Harvard/Princeton/Yale/Columbia: Reach
Cornell/UPenn/Brown/Dartmouth: Low Reach/Reach
Duke: Low reach because of all of the programs you did with them
Georgetown: Low Reach
JHU: Very High Match/Low Reach
UNC: High Match/Low Reach
Tufts: Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon: High Match

Here is my thread!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1512680-am-i-ok-track.html

Hmm…There are different things from what I’ve heard about people getting into the ivies. One thing for sure, keep up your GPA! Also, what do you mean by not including your freshmen year? If it’s bad, then EEK! Colleges do count freshmen year as a part of high school!:)

I think your varsity sports and your camps are all fantastic, good job on those, but what about work/volunteering experience?

Also, not really sure how reliable this is, but from some things I’ve heard, if you’re at least native american ‘enough’ with you know, a high enough percentage, I’ve heard people say that you can get into just about any Ivy if you have decent ECs and at least a 2100 on your SATs. Not sure how reliable this is once again, but hey, worth looking into.

I’m certified so I’m enough na lol and I’ve volunteered at a hospital and international service trips. I am the youngest in my class and I couldn’t necessarily get a job till senior year

@jetsWILLsoar I think volunteer service is good, but even if you are one of the youngest, that doesn’t mean you can’t do internships(not that they usually accept high school students). Colleges usually look for students as a whole, while test scores are a major factor in the whole image of yourself, being a part of the community is always important.

I think you may have a chance with Georgetown and Tufts, and not sure if this is related, but I also heard that Duke is more lenient towards the African American minority, but with Native Americans, I’m not so sure.

I’m half so I could put either and I’ve spent like 7 years at duke summer programs and even got some scholarships, and may qualify for their TIP program.

@jetsWILLsoar well good then! I hope it goes well!

besides your GPA, everything else looks great!!! i would deffiently say that you are a shoe in the UNC. there is a great chance at Duke for you too. when i went this past summer and talked to the addministrators, they said that GPA only played a small part of their decision. that ECA were a big part, and that the courses you take were more important that your GPA. AS for the others, i have no idea. Goodluck though!!!

HYP, Columbia - Reach, though your urm and athlete status will help
Penn, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell: Reach, still. If your school prestige kicks in, then it may be a low reach, but you still have to convince these guys that they want you, and you them.
Duke - Low Reach because of demonstrated interest/instate/urm/athlete
UNC Chapel Hill - Match - likely
Georgetown - High Match
JHU - High Match/low reach
Carnegie Mellon - High Match (carnegie is easier to get into than many of the schools listed, but i don’t know how much your urm/athlete status will help here)
Tufts - Match

Keep your GPA high. We can’t chance you as well as you can, because all schools have these little quirks. In my school, about 9 people got into princeton. Only 2-3 got into penn or brown. You know what colleges favor your school, and what kind of kids they take. Now compare yourself to the other kids in your grade and ask if you are one of the 8-12.

Chance back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508837-chance-princeton-upenn-jerome-fisher-ivies-etc-2.html?highlight=jerome+fisher+princeton

Well, jetsWILLsoar I had already written an elaborate response, but I don’t know what I did with it so basically I said what’s your class rank, I have a friend who applied to similar places, he’s native American, had better scores than you but wasn’t as well-rounded wrote all of his essays the day of and still got into almost every ivy and a bunch of non-ivys. I think with your combination of academics and ECs
All IVIES: should be in for Cornell and Dartmouth/ Low Reach: Brown/ Reach: Columbia and UPenn And HYP who knows
Duke: match
Georgetown: match
JHU: match
UNC: match apply for scholarships and what not here
TUFTS: match
CARNEGIE M: match
