I’m currently a junior in all IB classes but I have a low low UW GPA but a pretty good W GPA and average test scores: 32 composite ACT
UW: Around 3.55 ( I got a C in French but A’s in all other classes but English+ Psychology)
W: Around a 4.7
I have no hooks except I can do full pay, fairly poor hs but the IB program draws from the wealthy areas. Also, I’m asian so there’s that bias.
I have pretty average EC’s: Captain of the Women’s Varsity Golf team, a member of a bunch of clubs+ honor society’s, volunteer work at an art museum, a hospital and an internship at a law office.
My recommendations are most likely going to be good but not incredible as my teachers tend not to be super eloquent in their wording but they are incredibly smart and like me.
I want to study either Buisness/Econ. or Poli Sci/Public Policy
So overall, I’m pretty average/ below average for a top school, are there any schools in which I might have a good chance of getting in?
What’s a top school to you? You haven’t listed schools that you interested in/fit your interests.
I’m thinking about Brown, UPenn, Stanford, Duke, Emory, UVA,Tufts and Georgetown as kind of the top schools. @Janizary
Brown - high reach
UPenn - high reach
Stanford - crapshoot
Duke - high reach
Emory - low reach
UVA - low reach (if instate, probably match)
Tufts - reach (I got in with similar stats, but still better GPA)
Georgetown - reach
Crush it senior year if you want a fighting chance and see if you can bump that ACT a few points.
I suggest you only apply to a couple of these schools as reaches and focus more on matches; there are plenty of top schools that are achievable with your stats, but the ones you’ve listed are lotteries even with higher stats.
Any needs/preferences on budget, location, sports, Greek life, size, etc.? We might be able to help you find some matches and safeties, and there’s the SuperMatch tool.
