Essays: About my family tradition at the school, about mom having severe heart attack and coma in my sophomore year, and about perseverance in running. AP english teacher wanted copies to use as good examples for her classes.

Recs: Should be good, focused on my perseverance

Extra Rec: From my uncle who donates to the school (could hurt haha)

*I wrote a letter to the school about how my mom had 4 heart attacks throughout high school and was bedridden by her medication so I had to assume all of her household responsibilities and had less time for school work throughout almost all sophomore and junior years

I dislike it when people say things are "for sure." If anything, he is borderline. Last year someone got into Harvard but got rejected to USC. Nothing is for sure.

Disagree, I'd say he's in almost for sure. Strong family ties, SATs that land him in the middle of the mix, good ECs - the only issue is his GPA, which I feel is pretty well explained by his mother's health issues.

also, forgot to add, I go to a reallly competitive catholic high school that is #6 nationally ranked on this catholic school website (not sure how credible the ranking is though)

I think it's because everyone who goes to a super-duper-top-ranked-blah-blah-etc. school is obsessed with secondary education and therefore lurks on CC all the time.

Me, I go to an average suburban public school in the middle of nowhere.

In any case, you have a rather good shot, probably better than 50/50. However, despite your strong connections, I would never say you are in "for sure." College admissions are random, **** happens. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, someone got accepted to Harvard but not to USC.

haha wow, awkward for me...that was stupid, but I guess top 25 isn't bad...in my defense, I only glanced at the list to find my school, didn't really look at the other ones

"I dislike it when people say things are "for sure." If anything, he is borderline. Last year someone got into Harvard but got rejected to USC. Nothing is for sure." (sfgiants)

lo siento mucho. i meant that i would for sure say "Yes" not that he would for sure get in. 'for sure' are mostly empty words in this case, proof my poor diction. i should have written "i'd say yes fersherr"... that would have conveyed my meaning better, i suppose.
