Chances with weak extracurriculars?

I don't have a great array of extracurricular activies, but my grades and tests scores are all good.

How much would it hurt to not have a long list of activities, like I see so many people have?

You don’t need a long list of activities. Be aware that a lot of what you see here on CC are skewed. I think, as a general rule of thumb, don’t read chance me threads. It will only make you feel bad about yourself.

Thanks for the reply, but I’m really not sure though, because the school I go to is one of the best in the nation, and a LOT of people ring up a long list of activities. I have some of the best grades and I take tough courses and I am sure academically I can match up to everyone else and then some, but my definite weak point would be extracurricular and I just don’t know exactly how much weight goes into that portion of the application.

Even though extracurriculars are important, grades matter more. What do you mean when you say “weak extracurriculars?” You might be underestimating yourself. I agree with prowlings. Stay away from the chance threads.

List the e.c.'s and let our fellow CCers judge ruthlessly.

You have to cure cancer to get into princeton. Also, you have to hand build several schools for third world kids, and most importantly, you have to shake hands with the president. Composing your own music at carnegie hall isn’t bad either.
