chances yadda yadda yadda

y'all get chances threads all the time, i'd appreciate your input on mine because mine is kind of different, i guess? yeah anyways. chances on princeton type schools? I go to a really really competitive private high school (apparently we've got the best Latin program in the world, by sheer AP scores)

Freshman Year:

Spanish II Accel: A
History (1 term): B
Geometry Accel: B- (i'm awful at geometry)
Bio: B+
English: B+

Freshman year was a bummer for me. Those grades aren't the greatest, and for some reason I just didn't get geometry. It gets better though (I hope).

Sophomore Year:
Spanish III Accel: A+
History: B (teacher hated me)
Enriched (harder than accelerated) Algebra II/Trig: A-
Chem: A

Sort of a transition year. My history teacher was hellbent on slapping me with a C, unfortunately my work wasn't bad enough. whatevs.

Junior Year:
Spanish 4 Lit: A+
History(1 term): A-
US AP History (1 term): A
Physics Accel: A-
Writing Semester: A-
Comparative Lit: A-
Enriched Pre-calc/Calc A: A

This is where I'm at now. This is the most intense courseload you can possibly take at my school.

Senior Year (projected grades):
Spanish 5 AP Lit: Something in the A range (Spanish department loves me)
Holocaust & Individual: A (no one's gotten lower)
Russian Lit: Low A/ High B (Guy who teaches it is a hardass, but I'm in love with lit)
BC Calc: Low A/ High B (math comes natural, except frickin geometry)
AP Physics C: A (math plus science= wee!)
Dynamical Systems & Chaos: my pass/fail class (you can elect one pass/fail class your senior year), i'm going to pass
Love in Shakespeare's Plays: A (it's love....in shakespeare's plays! no really the guy who teaches it loves me because i saved his class from being awkward sophomore year)

So there's grades. Those senior year grades look kind of high, but i'm pretty sure they're under control if i study my butt off.

I've also taken concert choir all 4 years.

APs:
US History: Aced it, a 4 or 5 definitely
Music Theory: 5. Didn't actually take the class, just signed up for the test.
AP English Language: Definitely a 5
AP English Lit: Maybe a 4, but definitely almost a 5 if not one.

SATs: combined 2310.

CR:780
M: 760
W: 770

SAT IIs:
Spanish (listening): 800
English Lit: 790
Physics I haven't taken yet, looking at 750-800

ECs:

All male A Cappella group at my school for 3 years, head senior year.
Concert choir and Honors choir, Head of concert choir senior year.
Drama Assosciation since freshman year, head senior year.
Varsity football 3 years.
Piano for 6 years, guitar for 5, saxohone for 8, voice lessons for 3.
New Englnd Young Writers' Conference.
Key Club stuff junior year.
Experiment in International Living sophomore year, went to Chile did comm service type stuff.

So yeah. I arrange a cappella music after football practice. I do a lot of drama type stuff and play about a billion instruments (kinda rusty on the sax, but hey it still comes out). I dunno, I love to write, I'm really into Math, and I like singing. I'm tight with all the kids on the football team.

What does my freshman year do to me? What does getting a B in a class a teacher hated me in do? Where do I stand on these kind of schools? Questions questions questions!

Thanks in advance.

Don't sweat freshman year - Princeton doesn't even factor it in! Your grades are awesome, as are scores, and your ECs are great as well. If you get good recs and write good essays (!) you will have a great chance.

Good luck!

Your grades are pretty low for your SAT score. What school do you go to? Will the admissions office know that your grades are respectable? What is your class rank? Could you play football for Princeton? I would recommend that you pick one EC to really emphasize on your app (either singing, football, or instrumental music).

Do you go to Roxbury Latin?

i go to hopkins school in new haven connecticut. it's not as well known as andover/exeter/all those, but it's one of the better day schools in the country (or so i've been told). Out of a class of 135 this year, 11 are going to Yale, 4 got accepted into Harvard (one person declined to go to deep springs), 5 are going to Princeton, 7 to Stanford. This happens every year pretty much.

I don't know anybody whose ever gotten straight regular As or A+s, including these kids going to these schools. My school prides itself for some reason on not giving As. It also doesn't give out class rank: if I had to rank myself I'd probably say I'm 7th or 8th, not including freshman year.

I'm quite sure I couldn't play football for princeton, I'm 195 pounds and 5'9" and I play fullback; it's just not happening. I love singing though, and it's something I'd definitely want to do there.

Oh yeah I know someone who goes to Hopkins. Also I wouldn't worry about not having As or A+s; obviously colleges know how challenging certain schools are (at least that's what our college guidance counselors tell us, since we have the same situation). You're a junior, right? Have you met yet with your school college counselor? I had my meeting a few months ago and that really cleared things up as to where I could get in/should apply. If you really want to know your chances your best bet is to talk to you school college counselor. Also, if you're really 7th in your class and you say that about 30-40 kids in your class go to Ivies each year....well then I'd say you're doing pretty well.
