Board member on Chinese Culture Club and Japanese Culture Club

I have been volunteering at Northwestern University since freshman year.
I have a paper published that I helped write.

Are my chances pretty good?
I will not be applying for financial aid.

What in the world? Are you giving honors classes a 1.0 weight and AP classes a 2.0 weight? Either way, your uw gpa is the weak point of your application, though it can be made up for.

What was your paper on? Was it a research paper? If so, that could be extremely beneficial (as are the Olympiad results!).

Your courseload looks fine … did you do well on your AP exams?

At our school the classes are weighted weird
standard classes are out of 4.0
honors are 4.66
accelerated are 5.33

I took a mix of honors and accelerated

My paper was a research paper so i’m hoping it makes me look more appealing since RPI is very math/science

I should know my AP scores soon… it’s very scary

I plan to make my first marking period grades the best I can so RPI knows i’m serious about academics at their school.
High school was just a little rough for me…

Some quick mental math tells me that more than two thirds of your classes were accelerated, which is good.

The paper will definitely help, and possibly especially so if it’s in the major you’re applying for (though technically the exact major you pick isn’t supposed to have bearing on your admittance… only the school matters). Mind if I ask what the topic is?

I understand high school being rough. My GPA was not super high coming into RPI, either (darn English classes and first semester of US History…), and they let accepted me with a reasonably-sized scholarship, so it’s very possible they’ll do the same for you. That said, one overzealous admissions officer => :(.
