Chances?

Hi, I think I have a decent shot at Baylor. What do you think? What about scholarships? Thanks!
GPA: 4.0/4.0… weighted: 4.3… ranked 4/330
SAT: 2270/1480/11 essay
ACT:33
Senior year course load: 6 APs
Essays- Good(too subjective)
Recs- Great
ECs- Tutoring, bball coach, photography, ton of volunteering, etc.
I tried to make this as concise as possible haha. Oh, and I am also trying to take 13 APs this May (probably will end up taking 11) by self studying a ton of APs. Thanks!!!

Baylor has a scholarship calculator on their website–you can see exactly what they will offer you.

You will be admitted to Baylor.

thanks guys! Besides what it gives in the scholarship calculator, are there any other scholarships out there through Baylor?

@raza68— when did you apply?? You will definitely get in, but you must have applied late. Should have decent scholarship offer with those stats-- like Jacksmom said, you can use their online calculator to estimate what they’ll offer you. Good luck!!!

raza, I think you’re showing off. Of course you will get into Baylor–it’s not very selective. My question is why aren’t you aiming higher? You have a strong SAT score. (Incidentally, I am a Bear).

Why does he have to “aim higher?” I don’t get that about this board. That is where my son is strongly considering going. He has a 34 ACT and will have 6 AP classes. He is homeschooled as well. He likes it because it has a good computer science program, somewhat conservative, and good sports. When I posted his stats everyone told me to forget Baylor and have him consider Rice. Number one, he has no interest and thinks it would be too hard. I’m not sure he could get in and it is probably too liberal.

Hey guys, well I just got in (checked online). My primary question is about scholarships. Is what you get in the scholarship calculator the most you are going to get?

@anxiousfather- I have applied to a myriad amount of schools. For example, I applied to “prestigious” schools such as Princeton, upenn, Duke, etc. Still, this is not to say that I did not apply to schools like Baylor. Baylor, though it may not be at the top of ranks for colleges, is still a good option for me if they can give me a nice scholarship compared to my other offers (i.e. 10k from USC).

raza, both of my sons have been offered presidential scholarships at Baylor (around 17k/year), and they have similar credentials to yours. The older of the two chose an elite university, where we ended up paying about the same as we would have paid at Baylor. Baylor is a fine school, but it is not first tier. Some people like it because it is conservative and religious (I graduated from Baylor, so I know). But if you want excellence, look elsewhere.

As for scholarships, it depends of your family’s resources. If you are comfortably middle class, it is likely that all you will get is what the calculator says.

thanks anxiousfather. If this is true, Baylor seems a bit too expensive when compared to other schools. I could go to Tulane for about $2000 more… plus I do not like the fact that Baylor is a very religious school. The big reason I applied was so that I could see if I could get the tuition to be under 10k (My family will not get any financial aid… so I will probably end up getting that 17k). I’ll have to see the final offer when I recieve it in the mail next week.
Thanks again everyone!

Sorry this response is late…uh…with those stats…they should be coming to you. I’m assuming you’re a junior and have not applied yet. Here were my stats:
Top 10% of class
28 ACT
Out-of-state
Extra-curriculars
Official Campus visit

I was accepted the day after the application closed. With those grades and test scored you will most likely get everything paid for at Baylor. With my 28 ACT and grades they gave me like 13.5k a year off tuition, which was huge. Still expensive, but a great school.

Good luck.
