What is All-New England for music?

Music festival by audition.

fiddle- I tend to be very modest, or maybe I don't know how talented I am. I'm certainly no vituoso, but I have a really great tone (which I've been working on especially) and I can sight-read almost anything...well...not 16ths at a 120 tempo. ;) I guess I'm very good then. lol I think my expressiveness is my best point, while my tendency to gloss over runs is my lowest point.
I'm terrified of BU.

Is that like All-Eastern? I'm just wondering because I was pretty into the MA high school orchestra scene and I've never heard of it.

Really? See...I've never heard of All-Eastern. Is that the whole east coast? All New-Englands is the NEMFA festival.

Hey, you learn something new every day. (way to be cliched)

All-Eastern is the third level of a 4 part festival, districts and All-States are sponsored by the MMEA and I think the latter two, All-Eastern and All-American are organized by the Music educators association of america or some other ridiculous acronym.

What instrument do you play anyways?

I'm auditioning on flute, but I play piccolo just as well.
How do you get involved in All-Eastern?

Might want to look at some LAC's like Trinity or Holy Cross-both schools good combination of academics and social activities.

I disagree with MISTUH...

UConn - SAFETY
Ithaca - SAFETY/MATCH
Northeastern - SAFETY
American - SAFETY/MATCH
BU - MATCH
BC - MATCH/REACH
NYU - MATCH/REACH (might be closer to a reach)
Yale - REACH

I think you have great shots at all these places (except for Yale, of course, where you're applying it seems for the sake of applying heh). Keep the faith. You'll get into most of these places and have a blast.

stary-- if you're a bit intimidated by BU, but think you'll get in, than all the rest of the performance programs on your list are pretty well assured. It's not so hard to get into NYU's BM program, from what I hear (and judging from students I've heard from there.) Ithaca is a really good program.

fiddle- BU is my number 1 choice, but I'm so scared of the audition. More specifically, I guess I'm afraid of what they'll have me play. Do you know how competetive the auditions are? It seems to me that any sane person would look away from BU once they see the required repetoire. lol

Thanks prospy1987!

Hmm, the flute requirements look a little more stringent than the violin ones. They're quite standard, though, I think, though kind of weirdly vague and precise at once.

They seemed quite stringent to me also. I've played many sonatas, but they wanted a solo work, so I had to pull out a piece that I hadn't played for 3 years. The requirements may sound vague, but there really isn't that much to choose from, in my opinion.

That sounds rough. I obviously don't know much about flute rep, but that does sound kind of weird.

Yeah. ...I wonder what scales they ask for...

HA! I got out of applying for Yale!
