Chances?

I apologize ahead of time. But my counselor won't be straight with me and I want to know the opinion of the masses. My goal is Pomona College or Brown, but any liberal arts college (in good standing?) I'd be grateful for.

GPA: 3.7 (competitive, elite high school in nyc)

SAT: 2270

Extracurrics: heavily involved in minority representation activism for the last three years (on staff of several grassroots organizations, founder of a project), minor involvement in science extracurriculars (mostly museum and tutoring work)

Interest: Ethnic Studies, Environmental Science

Mostly I'm worried because my junior year was a mix of As and Bs. I'm a decent writer compared to my peers, and I'm pretty confident in my college essay

Your EC’s look great! My college counselor told me that admissions counselors love to see kids involved in EC’s that are more than one year long. I think Brown is a good choice for you. What is your class rank?

Brown and Pomona aren’t safeties or even low matches for anyone. If you founded a project then you assumed leadership in it, so it’s a plus.

Brown: A reach for the vast majority of applicants, and so it is for you.
Pomona: Reach

What safeties did you plan for?

Your junior grades will kill the bonus you earned through ECs… Unless there was a solid reason for that grade.

But even with 4.0 junior grades, you would have had a really hard time with Pomona and Brown still, unless you were black/hispanic and/or low income. I see though that you don’t qualify for both?

What other ECs/awards you have?

And any AP/SAT IIs?

Edit: Far reach for both unless you have AP/SAT II scores to back yourself up;;
