Chance for Brown and NYU?

I'm really freaking out. I'm starting the application process and I'm getting so self-conscious about myself. Brown is the highest school I'm applying to - not because of it's Ivy status, but because I think I would like it there. NYU for the same reason. I have other safety schools, but these are my top. I started looking for advise by reading this forum, but it only got me depressed. Tell me honestly - do I have a chance of getting into them, regular decision? Early decision?

Female

FL
SAT: 2050
ACT: 31 (they basically are the same thing, but I plan to re-take the ACT and hopefully get a 33 at least)
US History SAT2: 780
World History SAT2: 730
Intended major: English or History, but based on my SAT2s I'll probably put History.
GPA: 3.8 unweighted
Rank: I don't know
AP scores: AP World History (5), AP US History (5), AP Lang (5)
Schedule: Art 2D, Anthropology, AP Calc AC, AP Gov/AP Econ, AP Lit, AP Chem
Extracurricular: NHS (3 years), Mu Alpha Theta, NEHS, Poetry Club

I know my extracurriculars are lacking, but I moved to live with my dad the summer before Junior year. In the whirlwind and confusion that was adjusting to my new school, I missed a lot of the deadlines for clubs and so I was only in NHS. Will this seriously hurt me, or do I still have a chance with this? I also volunteered by tutoring for my school and helping a Kindergarten class with a program called 'Kidzart' every week last year.

I'm also applying to other colleges, but I was just wondering about NYU and Brown in particular...

Thank you so much.

Brown is pretty much out of the picture, with such low SATs and lack of ECs. But you should have a good chance at NYU.

Most probably in at NYU. Brown is going to be hard, so applying ED is your best bet along with outstanding essays and recommendations.

best of luck.

^^^Screw that. Everyone on this board is so negative. You can’t sum up a person’s entire life by having a test score that is closer to the 25th percentile than the 75th. Colleges want to see passion. Convey it through your artwork, poetry, etc. but you need to come off as an interesting person, not just a number.

NYU is a match/reach (we’d have a better understanding of how much with rank. Brown is unlikely.

NYU-Match.
Brown is a reach for anyone, as are all the Ivy’s. However, Brown is also more open to applicants who convey originality and individualism. Something unique. Definetly apply, you’ll kick yourself for not, and try to add some spice to the essay and if you have an artistic talent, consider sending a supplemental portfolio.

NYU - low reach
Brown - out of reach

I don’t think NYU is anywhere close to a “reach” for the OP. SAT’s are a little lower than average but the ACT is definitely spot on. Grades are very good and schedule is rigorous. It’s definitely a match for you.

Brown will probably be harder, however a 33+ on the ACT will definitely put you in a much better position.
