Chances?

I posted this on the Chances forum and am looking for some other thoughts, some from people more focused on the university in consideration. This is for LSA, by the way.

I attend a top public High School in Ohio. (Many students accepted to University of Michigan, few attend, if that makes a difference)

GPA: 3.8 (Weighted, unweighted unknown)
Top 20%
Upward trend, with sophomore year being the absolute lowest.

ACT: Composite: 31
Best Subsection Results:
Math: 32
English: 34
Reading: 31
Science: 27
Writing: 12

AP Classes Taken (including senior year)

Sophomore Year:
American History

Junior Year:
European History
English Literature and Composition
Statistics

Senior Year:
French
Psychology
Calculus BC
Physics 2
English Language and Composition
Micro/Macro Economics

As far as my course load goes, I take classes I am interested in and seek to learn the most I can, I don't try to pad my application with difficult classes. I take classes to learn, and I have built my schedule with that in mind.

Essays:

Common Application Essay: Very Good

Supplementals: Still in progress, should be good once revised/edited

Extracurriculars:

Server At Retirement Home for 2 years. Three to four days a week, after school, for 3.5-4 hour shifts.

Youth Group (4 years): Served as specific vice president for two terms, president for one. Coordinated a 4 day long convention with over 150 teens. If I had to pick one activity which defined my high school career, it would be this one. Always prevalent, always things to do. Culminating with running the convention. Altogether a great experience.

Boy Scouts of America (for life): Very close to eagle, Eagle Project planned and approved, only waiting for weather to get warmer so we can begin construction. Served as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for 2 terms, attended Philmont in 2011.

French Club (4 years): Served on Board of Directors my Junior year.

Lobbied in Washington DC: Went for a weekend through my synagogue to learn about then lobby for issues important to the Reform Jewish movement.

Awards and Distinctions:

National Honor Society: Senior Year
National French Honor Society: Freshman and Senior Year
AP Scholar with Honor Award: Senior Year

I think that is about it, if I am missing anything, feel free to let me know and I will supply any more necessary information. Thanks for the chances! I will chance back, but I don't really know how valuable my information will be because if I could do it well, I would probably just chance myself. Nonetheless, I'll do my best. Cheers!

EDIT: Something I forgot to mention, after I apply, I will be writing an email to the admissions officer thanking them for the opportunity and further expressing my interest. Clearly won't make a huge difference, but it couldn't hurt either.

You can quickly figure your unweighted GPA - give As a 4, Bs a 3 and any Cs a 2 in your academic classses, add everything up and divide by the total number of classes. Michigan likes to “see” lots of As on your transcript  Bs are fine as long as there aren’t too many of them. Best of luck.

Say I’ve got some Bs but mostly As. Judging from my other credentials, what would you say my chances are? I don’t have availability toy transcript presently but I will when I get back from holiday break.

Your test scores and GPA are similar to my sons, also out of state. He was deferred initially and later accepted to U of M. He is a freshman there now in LSA and absolutely loves it. Keep working hard and earn the best grades you can senior year. Son had a 4.0+ throughout his junior and senior years in high school, which is tough to do when your friends are checking out from senioritis. Best of luck to you!

I would agree that you are competitive. No one can really tell you what your changes are, as much fun as you kids like to have with the chances threads, but if your test scores and your GPA as you report are accurate would not be wasting an application fee. Good luck.
