Chances?

Is it possible for me to get into University of Texas at Austin?

OK so my GPA weighted is around a 3.6. I have had really good grades in the past but messed up the first semester of my junior year. (Right now). I am in three clubs at my school to benefit the under privileged and sick children. I have many hours of community service and I have even spent time in Jamaica working with orphans this summer. I have played piano for seven years and have preformed in many recitals. I won a poem contest in sixth grade and my poem was published. My dad has very close ties with the administration board at UT. I plan to major in English and Human Rights and then after my four years I plan to go to law school. I can get really good letters of recommendation. Im taking the SAT later this month and plan to keep taking it until I get a least a 1800. What are my chances of getting in?

what is your rank?

im not sure. i dont find out till the end of the semester.

Your chances overall are pretty low. Your 1800 SAT score isn’t the greatest, and your GPA is on the lower side. I like to believe that UT is a meritocracy, but I wouldn’t doubt that someone could get in with the right connections. I’m a little skeptical though about whether those connections which your dad has can actually penetrate the admissions office.
