No chance for Columbia and NYU because of GPA (you would be wasting your money by applying). I don’t know much about the others.

What would be some good colleges for my majors worth applying to in the NY area? I know the GPA hurts me a lot, not sure if explaining to the college it stemmed from moving and depression and teachers refusing to accept my grades would help a whole lot.

Well, and not to be too blunt, but its not just your GPA, it is also your scores, they are significantly off the norm. If I recall correctly, the median SAT for the 50th percentile of admitted students at Columbia is 2160. I would really place more energies looking for other schools.

Do you have any suggestions for the NY area? Fordham, Manhattan College, etc?

you need to reconsider your list (at least for the first 2).

Kind of knew that from the beginning. Hanging on to some hope i guess. Really leaning towards University of Washington since they do not require your transcript as much. They want your ACT/SAT grades + personal essays. Think that would work better for me?

Not sure where you obtained that information for UDub (University of Washington-Seattle), but the average accepted GPA is about 3.7 and the average SAT score composite at University of Washington is a 1815. Are your parents prepared to pay full freight, OOS at UDub or about 48K, plus 11K for room and board?

University of Washington would be really difficult since they strongly consider GPA and SAT.

Plus, as an OOS student, you would be full fees @ ~$50K.

Consider your SUNY schools; they are really good schools. We live in California and our eldest attended Buffalo and loved it!

They don’t want your transcript or your recommendations until they request it. and my parents are willing to pay what is necessary. So tuition is not the main concern so much as admission to a good university

i’m leaning on that 55% acceptance. Hoping my 4-5 essays I write in carry across my points, poor gap reasons, personality, etc.
When you say SUNY schools, you mean Fordham, Manhattan College, etc?

The primary reason the elite schools are out of reach for you is that GPA. Unless your parents are willing to donate a $10 million dollar building, that GPA isn’t helping.

Sadly. As for SUNY schools, do you know how good those are concerning transfers after 2 years or something to like UW for example?

While that might be true, if they seriously consider you as an applicant–it (transcripts and scores will be requested–and decisions will be made based on the information sent.

SUNY (State University of New York) at Albany, Stonybrook, Geneseo, Buffalo, etc.

Are you getting any help at your school from your guidance counselor???
You live in NY and are unfamiliar with your state options???

Fordham and Manhattan are private Catholic schools.

NYU and UPenn are completely out of reach.

I’m actually OOS from Maryland. My guidance counselor provides me with no help so I just do everything myself. and i am not talking about UPenn, but actually Penn State (chances?). Heard some people have gotten in with 2.9 GPAs…

No chance…don’t waste your money. Apply to more “safety” schools that better fit your gpa
