I’m going into senior year and I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go (and of course they’re all reaches) My top 3 right now would be NYU (first choice, would do probably anything to go there), University of Wisconsin-Madison, and BU.
I have a 3.1 UW (I know very low for those schools don’t remind me) and a 3.6 W. I took almost all honors (excluding foreign language) and 3 APS so far (AP Gov, AP Psych, AP Lang&Comp). Taking AP Calc, AP Microeconomics and possibly AP bio next year. I struggled with AP Gov as that was my first AP class sophomore year but I’ve done much better in those classes as I’ve gotten older. (Even though I got a couple C’s in my earlier part of high school I’ve had an upward trend, got all A’s and B’s this latest semester.)
I got a 30 composite on my ACT (28-31s on english, math and science but I did get a 35 on reading which I was pretty happy with) I’m going to meet with a tutor before I retake it one more time and I think I can get it up to a 32-34.
I have decent ECS (I think). I was a two sport athlete freshman year, then continued these intermittently and will continue through junior year. I also dance competitively outside of school sports. I did volunteer clubs and a club that fundraised money for kids at our school that can’t afford things like sports fees and prom tickets etc.etc.etc. I volunteer at the humane society now also.
So I know I am under qualified GPA wise, but do you think I still have at least a shot? I was lazy when I was younger, I didn’t know what I wanted and I thought I would just end up going to a state school or one of the less competitive big 10s. But, now I know that I don’t want that. I am so much more driven now and my biggest regret is not using my full potential in the beginning of high school. If anyone has any recommendations of matches for me (preferably with a premed program) please let me know also!! thank you!
