So, where do I stand? I'm thinking about these schools

University of Notre Dame (reach, but my dad was an alumnus)
Bucknell University (I'm thinking another reach?)
Northeastern University
Villanova University
University of Richmond
University of Delaware
College of the Holy Cross
SUNY Geneseo
Ithaca College
Mount Holyoke College
University of Rochester
Fairfield University
Fordham University

Those are the main ones...get back to me please, and be as honest as you need to. I can take it.

I got into Fordham and Northeastern with a 3.5 UW GPA and 660R/700M/740W. I also go to a very competitive high school but my courses and ec's were no where near yours. I think you're in those two for sure. I think SUNY Geneseo would be a def. safety. Not sure about the others.

i got into northeastern with a 3.8 gpa, 710M/620R/600W, i know my SAT scores suck, and i'm asian, just an average asian.
my high school www.hthsweb.com, vp of senior class. and just being average got me into all my schools except ivy's cuz i'm retarded like that.

so i think you should shoot as high as you can, the thing is.. the things you're doing.. have you been doing them consistently (year after year) because from what I've heard colleges love to see committment. It's the whole quality rather than quantity ordeal, because colleges get applications of SO MANY tutors, SO MANY group leaders, SO MANY presidents etc... you just have to find the thing that separates you from the rest. you know?
but hey, you're doing your thing, you're SET, your grades are great, your ECs numerous, and schooling system seems good, so just keep doing what you're doing and more,

good enough is never good enough. shoot high!
good luck :)

Knaufy, You're selling yourself a bit short even, and I wouldn't hesistate to raise the bar a bit depending on where you actually want to go to college.
-good luck

And rocjo, you're SAT scores are fine! no where near 'suck.' Sounds like you have let stereotypes affect you in a bad way.

Are you kidding? You should be a lock for all of those schools except for maybe Notre Dame. But you're a legacy there, and they really value legacy a lot. Definately aim higher. BC, NYU, Tufts, and Wellesley should all be matches for you. You don't need 10 safety schools.

Good luck!

you'll definitely get into NEU. I believe that. Do you mean to say you haven't gotten into NEU yet?

I got into NEU with a 3.6, not so great SAT scores, and not a lot of EC's. I think I might be one of the lucky ones who got in with a low profile...

I don't think so, my overall GPA isn't a 3.9-4...that's my junior year GPA. My overall is lower...I'll see if I can get it from my counselor.

I agree with the others, you shouldn't sell yourself short... aim a little higher.

I got into neu with an 1190 SAT (610 verbal/ 580 math)...

Granted my scores were a bit below average for Northeastern, but as a transfer student my collegiate record was weighed more heavily. (currently finishing up my sophomore year at rutgers with a 3.868 GPA)

My point is, I wouldn't worry about your SAT score at all...you're nearly guaranteed at Northeastern. I wouldn't necessarily say that it should be considered a safety school, but your chances are better than most.

You may want to consider schools that are just a step below the ivies, as well as those that are a small step above the top tier schools like Northeastern.

I agree with what McDonalds77 said. You definitely have a legit shot with schools like Notre Dame, NYU, BC, etc.

Good luck.

Keep in mind that some programs at Northeastern are harder to get into others (some are super competitive). So your chance of admission could be higher or lower depending upon the major that you select.

Regardless of what your overall GPA is, you certainly overqualify for most of the schools that you are applying to. I suggest dropping every school except Bucknell, Notre Dame, Northeastern, and 1 other safety school. Use NEU and another school as your safety, Bucknell as your "match", and Notre Dame as a "realistic reach". Replace the rest of your schools with more matches and reaches.

You'll be fine :)

I honestly don't see Bucknell as a match, more of a reach...and definitely don't see Notre Dame being a realistic reach...
But when I retake the SAT if I scored more in the 1350-1400 range, would that make a huge difference or not so much?

Definately retake the SATs because it will make a HUGE differance. Your grades and extra curricular activities are both good - The only thing that is holding you back right now is your SAT scores. I think if you could score a 1400, Notre Dame should be a match for you since you are legacy there.

This is true, but be aware that the admissions officer viewing your application will have access to ALL of your SAT scores, not just the score you want them to see.

Yes, except the official records entered for each college, like the middle 50% listed on collegeboard, uses the highest SAT score of each category. Many colleges may not use the SATs as an indicator of how well you will do in college, and may value SATs only to boost their statistics.

Taking the SATs twice or three times shouldn't hurt you. But any more than that and it might backfire.

Knaufy - Don't be so pessimistic; You will get into your schools. :)

Perhaps you should also try ACTs. Give em a try, can't hurt. You are going to do better on either SATs or ACTs, so why not try ACTs and maybe you'll do better on them

Maximus.. what are the harder and easier programs to get into at northeastern?

Harder:
Honors Program
Engineering
International Business
Finance
Accounting
Computer Science
Pharmacy
Physical Therepy
Architecture

Easier:
Criminal Justice
General Studies
Engineering Technology

How hard is the Physical therapy program to get into??? And is the liberal arts relatively easy, because those would be my two picks and I LOVED this school..

Admission to the physical therepy is very competitive. Getting into the College of Arts and Sciences is quite a bit easier (except for the hard sciences). But keep in mind that Northeastern now receives 27,000 applications for 2800 spots (6500 EA). This means that the admissions committee can be really picky about who they admit (regardless of the program). So if you really want to go to Northeastern, make sure that you express strong interest in the school (i.e. tell them why you want to go NEU vs. other schools).
