Chances?

I go to a pretty competative high school (in MA). My GPA is really bad though. Unweighted its about a 2.8 and weighted its like a 3.0. I had a strong aversion to homework

Senior Year I plan on straight A's term 1! (I've signed up for 1 AP, 2 honors classes)

However I did pretty well on the SAT, with a 2000 out of 2400. SAT II's are 740 in World History, 740 in US History, 640 in Literature.

I have good extra curriculars (peer counselor, state finalist for speech and debate team, model UN, various jobs, wrestling team, ski club, cross country team).

I'm probably going to major in international relations. I am a decent writer as well so my essay should hopefuly be decent. I will have a recommendation from my English teacher and my History Honors teacher.

I know people with straight A's who got rejected from Northeastern, and you don't even have one A in your junior year. A 2000 is a good SAT score, but it isn't anything extraordinary for a Northeastern applicant, so it won't make up for your GPA.

Of course no one can judge an entire person based on a few numbers, and your application will show other strengths that you can't share here, but since you're asking people's opinions... I would guess that Northeastern is a reach for you.

Yes, while many 4.0 students do not get into Northeastern, plenty of sub four-o students do get accepted. I was accepted into honors with a 3.5 unweighted, a few EC's (namely owning and operating a lawn care business for five years and being an eagle scout), and a 33 on my ACT. I took 2 AP's last year and 2 this year. Your EC's are solid and if you take your SAT and ACT again you should be able to push up that score and bring NEU right into your reach. So, in conclusion, keep your grades up senior year (it's nearly impossible because you won't want to do anything:-P) and push up your already good SAT score and I think you won't have too much trouble getting accepted, just don't make it a safety.

PS...APPLY EARLY ACTION! People with much higher credentials than mine got rejected from regular admission. Hope this all helps!

Heh, I own a lawn care business too!
