I am applying to Brown as an engineer with a 4.35 GPA, good writing supplements, multiple extracurriculars, including a state championship and a contest-winning underwater ROV, but I have one glaring flaw: my SAT scores being a mere 1700. I am terrified. What are my chances?
I am also salutatorian of my class.
What is the the breakdown of the 1700? What are your subject test scores? Have you taken AP calculus and AP sciences?
560s in Reading and Writing, 580 in Math. Subject scores have yet to come in. Taking AP Calc, AP Psych, and AP Span. 4. I’ve taken honors for everything prior.

Here are some statistics for the acceptance rate stratified by SAT scores. For students with SAT math scores in the range 550-590, the acceptance rate is 2%.
Your grades and ECs demonstrate that you are talented and a hard worker. But I think it is going to be a challenge to show Brown admissions that your academic foundation is strong enough for their engineering program.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate your input.
You’ve got a chance, certainly! I wish you the best of luck.
