Boston Latin School is a very prestigious (and notoriously hard) school, so my GPA is “ok”. I am very worried. Im doing the RD engineering (no PLME for me :-/) that should make it a bit easier…right???

my scores

SAT: 2070

- 680 Math strange since im a math person
- 690 Writing (8 essay)

SAT II:
- Math Level 2 - 750
- US History - 720

GPA : 3.7 weighted (i think this is “ok”, not great, but my school is uber hard)

AP: Latin Vergil - 4
US History - 4

Classes this year:

Latin Tradition
French 5 Honors
Modern Euro. Hist AP
Calc AB AP
English 12
Chemistry I

The SATs are low (and appear to add to 2060 to me). Other than that you've got a reasonable shot. Brown recognizes when schools are more tough than others and how that affects GPA.

Boston Latin has a great reputation, but your SAT and AP scores don't make you look like a particularly stellar candidate. You're competing with a LOT of outstanding candidates from your area, so if you don't have some fascinating extracurriculars or some kick-ass essays, then I'd say you don't have a particularly strong application. Doesn't mean you won't get in, though. It's all very unpredictable.

I think what stands out is that you're a math person, but you're only taking AB calc, and your math SATs are average. It's also kind of odd for an engineering person not to be taking physics his senior year. That's my first impression. To be brutally honest, I'd say your chances are slim.

I think your lack of physics classes will hurt you trying to apply for engineering. Taking Calc AB when your school has a BC (I looked it up!) will also probably not reflect very well.

I'm not just saying this because we play in the DCL with you, but I think your chances are slim, even though BLS is one of the best public schools in the state. If you were taking AP Physics C this year that would probably help.

i talked to an ad com about this... she said, and i quote "Ha, there are better schools, and he is not even doing great in that school. tell him i will keep that space open for a better candidate, such as your handsome self.." ok i cut the rest out cause it got a bit personal, but you get the idea right?
