Chances???

Hi! So I’m currently a high school junior and I’m strongly thinking about applying ED to Brown next year. I haven’t yet taken the SAT, ACT, or subject tests, but I’m planning on taking all this year. I’m also currently getting a tutor for the SAT, so I’m aiming for a 1400-1500+. Still not sure about the ACT, but I think I’m going to take the chem subject test.

My weighted GPA is a 4.32 and my unweighted is around a 4.0. There were no AP’s offered at my school freshmen year, but I took all the hardest classes offered. Sophomore year the only AP offered was AP US history, which I ended with a 90 in a class and a 5 in the exam.

This year, I’m only taking 2 AP’s, which is something I’m really worried about. I was taking 3, but I dropped one because I decided it wasn’t for me. Halfway through the year this year, I have an 88 in chem and a 94 in lang. I think I can manage a 4 on the chem exam and a 5 on lang.

In addition to that, I’ve been on the varsity swim team every year, although I’m not captain next year, volunteered at an elderly home since freshmen year and established their first art program, and done relay for life every year since freshmen year. Junior year I’ve been admitted into NHS, SNHS, and NEHS. I also do a club that helps freshmen get used to high school, which is a club for only juniors and seniors.

I know for a fact I can write a great essay and I think I can interview pretty well. My parents are immigrants, so I’m first generation going to college in the states, and I’m Filipino. I can get one amazing letter of recommendation and two good ones. I’m very worried about the fact that I’m only taking 2 AP’s this year. Would taking community college classes this summer help? Next year I’m planning on taking 5 AP’s: human geo, psych, AP calc, Spanish, and bio. Also around what SAT/ACT score would be sufficient for me to have a good chance of admission?

Do you think I have a good chance at getting in ED? Thanks!!

Please don’t make any more chance threads. I used to be like you, and I just ended up stressing myself out to the point of an asthma attack. No one here can give you an accurate estimation of your chances, only the admission officers.

No one has a “good chance” of getting in ED. Tbh, the whole process is random so don’t get caught up with 1 school. And anyway its kind of pointless to do a chance thread when you don’t have any solid test scores to report. I thought for sure I would have a good chance of getting a 2300+ on my first try (old sat), but it wasn’t that easy.

Keep your gpa up, pursue things that interest you, and enjoy high school. But if you want an honest opinion about your “chances”, if you manage to do everything you said you would do, I assume you would at least be a pretty competitive candidate.

Again, just do well in high school for the sake of learning, and I promise it will all fall together like pieces in a puzzle. Brown admission officers know genuine students.
