My son has a 4.08 GPA, rigorous high school, 1360 SAT, AP Lang-5, AP US History-5, AP Gov’t -5, many honors classes. Medium amount of EC’s (100 hrs. volunteering) but not a jock or social butterfly, great teacher recs (they approached him, so likely wrote good things…I’d hope), pianist and writer. He’d like to study Poly Sci. I was worried when they said they had 22,000 applicants for just over 1600 freshman spots last year. Ouch.
I think he looks pretty good for CLAS, but I am wondering how things might change this year with the addition of the Early Decision. Does he have an ACT score? Here are the stats from this year’s freshman class:
Percentage of admitted freshman applicants who ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school class (where rank is given): 80
Percentage of admitted freshman applicants who ranked in the top 20 percent of their high school class: 96
The middle 50 percent range of SAT scores was 1380-1460/1600.
The middle 50 percent range of the composite ACT score was 31-34/36
GPA range for admitted students was: 3.96-4.35/4.00 on a weighted scale
So difficult to try to guess, but if he is serious about Villanova I would suggest he apply early decision or early action. I think seeing as he enjoys writing, his essays can make him really shine! Best of luck!
Thank you phxcactus. His ACT was 28…, so not sure if he should present that. The science part of the ACT is what brought him down…but his aptitude is in history, writing, etc…although globally quite bright.
Yeah I don’t know that I would include the ACT, only because it looks like his SAT is stronger. Good luck to you both!
I think the app would look stronger without including the ACT score. Good luck!
