Maybe he can call the admissions officers "big mouths". They're masochists - they'll love it, I'm sure!

Oh, by the way, my Armenian friend has lived in Armenia, Italy, and moved to the US and started eight grade without knowing a word of English. He knows Armenian, Italian, Spanish, and English now, and did pretty well throughout high school to get into UVA (top 7% of one of the more competitive public schools in Virginia). He's rolling through the E-School with something like a 3.7+ gpa in biomed engineering (and is planning to apply to med school). Yes, he didn't live in quite as many places as you, and didn't learn quite as many languages, but he has had similar experiences and overcame the difficulties that he faced. He didn't have to sit here complaining about the fact that when people talked to him he would have to ignore them and pretend he understood what the teachers were saying and everything else he went through.

I know him, he for example doesn't know Italian.
He got here in 8th grade, i got here in the beginning of 10th grade, not knowing anything about high school, grades, competitiveness, and so forth.

Actually my GPA should be around a 3.6

When I say that I speak a language, it actually means that I get 5 on the AP exam with closed eyes, write wonderful essays and am so fluent that native people can't tell the difference.

So you were just an uneducated peasant on the streets somewhere until 10th grade? It sounds like you're making up excuses. Anyway, a 3.6 GPA is more reasonable to apply with and would give you a much greater chance than a 3.3. A score >2000 would also probably be good, though SATs are not as important as class rank/GPA.

The number of languages you speak can be added somewhere in your essay, but it's not going to be some major factor in your admission.

Finally, I don't think we are talking about the same person.

Frankly I don't think you should be arguing with 'us', cause we're not the admissions officers you see? We're just giving your our opinion.

Having said that, here's mine. Although you're the first person to go to college in the States in your family, you're not the first person to go to college, ever. I think that's the only part that will help you, if you're the first person to go to college in your whole family history.

So you might work your butt off senior year, but keep in mind that when they make the decision, they'll only see your first semester senior year grades, and they'll DEFINITELY see the entire bad sophomore year. And I don't know what kind of school you go to, but having six AP's senior year AND having to fill out apps.. ouch. That's really going to kill you. I only took four AP's and some other courses senior year and I still wished I could have a double or two. Hopefully working your butt off = a 4.0

Your numbers aren't spectacular, but your background is very interesting. Try to emphasize that and have some awesome essays. I'd say you have a middling chance.

You really have no idea how much emphasis UVA places on grades. It doesn't sound like your english is that bad but I suggest you take the TOEFL
