Chances????

Ok, I was just wondering if any of you could give me some insight fo rmy chances at ND. First off, I would just like to say, I have only just started my junior year, but i wanted to post, so that you intelligent people can give me some pointers/ideas. Ok so here we go
I go to prestigous jesuit school
i have a 3.8 weighted gpa
so far i have taken 5 honors classes and 2 Ap
all ap for senior year
4 years of football
4 years of baseball
somewhere around 150 hours of community service so far
my last psat was some where around 1850
I'm currently taking a class to try to bump that score up
Ummmm,,,, key club,,,,best buddies,,,,,,National Honors Society
I have a relative on the admissions board, but i dont know how much i can count on that

So basically I was wondering mostly of what i should do in the next year to better my chances to my ultimate dream school...

thanks for any help that you could give me
I live in AZ if that helps

Leadership and a good SAT score.

Keep up everything else.

AZ huh, I know your Jesuit school :). I went to the Jesuit high school in Denver, if that gives me away. It is a good school.

I know your school is difficult but do you know your rank approximately? Your school probably doesn't rank but just give us a guess.

As for SAT, don't worry too much about the writing section because ND really doesn't use it yet.

I really can't tell you yet what your chances are but what I would shoot for, if possible, is top 5% class rank and a SAT between 1400-1450 on the old version. I think those numbers will give you a good shot. Keep working, see how close you can get, and leave the rest to fate. Good luck and enjoy high school! Have you been on Kairos yet assuming you have it btw?

irish68178,
I know exactly of your school as some of my relatives went there. Im goin on kairos in the spring, Im also going on Magis in a few weeks, i dont know if you guys do that or not. As far as my class rank goes, i could only estimate. I know for sure I am not in top 5 percent, but definitly top 10 or 12.
BTW, I went up to your school when my brother played you guys in basketball a few years ago.
I also want to take the act.... but I really dont want to worry about that untill the spring, because my workload right now is about 18-20 hours of hw a week..... not to mention sports
Im also taking a princeton review class....which asks for about 5 hours of homework as well
So basically I just wanted to see if I even have a chance, and if i do what direction i need to head in....
BTW...i dont know if my e.c's are that strong
IVe have played baseball and football for my first 3 years( 4 for each by the time i graduate).... which takes so much time
My school requires service hours,,, and thats about all I have done (150) hours....
What direction should i go in with respect to e.c. directly for nd
thanks irish for any help

You definitely have a chance and should take both the SAT and ACT to just get the best score you can manage. As for ECs, just do what you are interested in. Leadership looks good, as does doing things for four years, but it seems like you are doing a lot as it is. I think you are alright there. Work on your rank, study for the SAT, but you definitely have a shot I feel. Good luck!

thanks so much irish
BTW..
would you recommend a 4th year of foreign language? Remembering that spanish has been the one thing that has brought my gpa down
Also for my sciences, after my junior year i will have complete dBiology, chem/phys, enviromental, and chemistry. Is it better to take physics my senior year.....or something else like computer science

If it were me, I would take Physics and Spanish. The Physics just looks (and probably is) more difficult and the Spanish can help you later on because some colleges, like mine, require you to get to a proficient level in a foreign language so the better background you have coming in the better you will do here. Just do your best, but keep challenging yourself!

Ok.....Gots lot of work to do.....we'll see where I stand in a year

Okay.. I found out my rank today.. well only my percent...
Im in the top 9 percent.....
thoughts

not a bad place to start from. The average for ND is top 6%, so hopefully that gives you an idea of where to shoot for, but if you are in the top 10% overall I think you have a good shot. It is just the higher it is, the lower your SAT has to be.

So true.......
**** the sats they're gay and I hate them
(opens book and continues to read " Manuel for the sat")
