will have good referances and essays

should i apply i do i have a slim chance???

whitney,
I am going to be attending RISD in the fall and just recieved my acceptance letter in the mail about a month ago. I thought I had a slim chance on getting in as well but was pleasantly surprised. Through facebook (and some other places) I've seen some student's work who are going to be in my class and some are about as good as mine, some alot better and others a little worse. So, there is actually a surprisingly wide range of talent at RISD (atleast of what i have seen). If this helps:

I had almost zero community service on my application so, appreantly that isn't a big deal at RISD and I wasn't in NHS or anything.

I took the same PreCollege Portfolio Development camp thing at the Corcoran that I believe you are talking about.

I think my essays were pretty decent and I had some very nice recomendations.

My SATs were higher thans yours, I think the average at RISD is like 1800ish (correct me if I'm wrong) but they do stress that if your portfolio is really strong it can compensate for the low SATs.

If it helps I have some artwork posted on myspace but you must have a myspace in order to view them. The URL is www.myspace.com/blondsocrchick15 click on my picture then on the album that says artwork.
Its only a small bit of my portfolio but it can help you get a feel of what they will accept. I would also try and improve the SAT scores. I took the damn thing 3 times, so maybe you'll improve and have a better chance.
My advice is to work really really hard and go to a National Portfolio Days and get your portfolio reviewed by them. I did and it probably saved my application.

Good luck.
