bmppppppppppppppppppp

why the constant bumping? not really sure what you want us to tell you...your gpa makes you a reach, so apply early and maybe try to work in an explanation for the bad gpa in your essay or recs. search the archives here for stats of admitted students or in the class of 2011 facebook group.

Actually, the UCs put more weight into SATs than anything else. GPA and class rank follow close behind, but SAT is definitely first.

obrien- how do you think i can do this? is there a personal statement thing where you can explain stuff?

vc08-what are your sources? ask anyone and they'll say GPA/rank accounts for 75% or so of UC's decision

there's no personal statement but your guidance counselor can explain it, especially if you still maintain a high class rank with a difficult courseload, or maybe there was an incident at home or something that caused your gpa to fall, which could fall into the "setback" essay topic.

thanks, but then wouldnt colleges think its more of a sob story and doesn't even show what kind of a person you are (through the essays) or does umich require more than one essay?

My sources are the admissions officers at UC Berkeley and UCLA. I have talked to them personally, and they said that although they do consider the essays, the majority of their decision is based on numbers, "with the majority of that being the SAT"

Also, I wouldn't try and make excuses for your GPA. You should focus instead on how you overcame a challenge, helped your community, etc. I also have the essay prompts for UM, and there isn't one related to GPA.

really? that's wierd b/c i've seen a bunch of 4.5W gpa/1800 SAT get in LA, but no 4.0W/2100SAT get in

oh yea , although i do have a medical condition that i can probably use as an excuse for my GPA, but i most likely wont do that

don't use it, it will look like bs to them. don't make excuses, just try and improve.

not sure about why the 4.5 got in over the 2100. it was the exact opposite at our school this year. someone with a 2160 and 3.5 gpa got into both berkeley and ucla.

lol its not really a medical condition but i can kinda make it turn into one

but that's kinda stretching it wayyyyyyy too far considering i dont even have it anymore and it'll seem too bs

agreed...plus, you don't want to tease it for the sake of those who do have something seriously wrong...not too classy
