Take the SAT, just for kicks.

Your grades are good; your test scores are average (could use improvement if you want to be SURE you get in); and your EC's are good.

How competitive is your high school? Like what kind of school did #20 get into last year?

I'm assuming you're white. I give you pretty good chances at getting into CMU engineering or science... say 80%, assuming you take calculus next year.

im not taking calc next year. Pre calc if thats what youre inferring. My high school is a really competitive private high school in michigan. The only reason why im number 20 is because i couldnt take any honors freshman year, and because its on a weighted scale, i've been playing catch up. What kind of financial aid do you think i can expect. Also, is a 34 on the math and a 33 on the science really average?

one thing i forgot, would you match me with this school, or would you say its a reach, or a safety?

Assuming good essays (I see English isn't your strongest subject, so don't leave them till the last minute :)), I'd say CMU is probably a match for you. It's unlikely that you'll see much merit aid.

I don't play the match, reach, safety game. I just applied to schools I wanted to go to. Some worked out; others didn't.

I meant AP Calc. Most engineers enter CMU with AB Calc under their belts, so you'd be at a disadvantage. Unless, of course, your school doesn't offer calc. However, I wouldn't worry about it tooooo much.

Standardized tests always came easier to me than actual class work. I don't know why you think your English and Reading scores aren't important. Just trust me and take the SAT because some people do a lot better on one test than the other.

A competitive high school will help you a lot. Oh, and don't expect ANY merit-based financial aid. It's all based on how rich/poor you are and how much CMU wants you - so I can't really speak to any of that.
