Chances?

Hey all, I know you're not supposed to trust chances threads much, but I still would like to get a general idea about how easy it'd be for me to get into UF. I visited the campus recently and I LOVE it.

Anyway, here are my credentials:

Indian male, Orlando, FL
Grade: 12 (starting Aug 20)
Cypress Creek High School, International Baccalaureate Program
Unweighted cumulative GPA (as of grade 11): 4.0000
Weighted cumulative GPA (as of grade 11): 5.1612
Highest SAT combined score: 1420 (CR 740, Math 680) [Writing 800]
Class Rank: 2
AP Exams: World History 5, English Language and Composition 5, Calculus 3 (>_<). Will take AP Biology next year.
I opted not to take AP Chem, a decision I now regret. Instead, this past summer I took and completed a community college General Chemistry Dual Enrollment class, passed with an A*

-Besides AP Chem and Psychology, I will have taken every AP course my high school offers. Additionally, all my other classes are IB classes, and I will be sitting for my IB exams next year.

-moved to the US from India in 2003

-intended major: Neurobiological sciences with goal of getting into med school (possibly the 7-year program)

EC's [not so great :(]
- have been playing piano for four years (ever since arriving here). Have won awards and certificates for local, district and state-level competitions.
- 150+ hours volunteering at local hospital over period of 2 years
- tutored Biology at school
- Asian Club (3 years), NHS, National Spanish Honor Society (helped organize Hispanic Heritage Show at school-very successful), National Science Honor Society, volunteered at Olympiad last year, Indian Students' Association (helped organize a very successful culture show at school)
- I am working on a project that empowers underprivileged village girls in India by teaching them vocational skills, allowing them to provide for their families

Good essays, expecting good recommendtion letters.

Thanks! :)

98% chance

ya i think you have a pretty decent chance. but what happen last year? i heard alot of ppl didn't get in from CCHS?

yea many ppl who deserved to get in didnt and many who didnt deserve to got in... everyone was surprised and it made the rest of us realize that uf's rele getting competitive nowadays...

chamilitarymayn & ubiquityessence: thanks!

Apply early

I guess ur in!! :)

Vincanity1: There is no more early decicions from this year on.

Dosaguy: You are pretty much one foot in, and I think you can get in to some more prestigious universities out of state if your financial status allow it.

thanks all!

mattzheng: my financial status is my main roadblock... there's really no way i can pay my way through the more prestigious universties, unless i get lucky with scholarships/grants. I'm going to try more prestigious schools, but UF is really appealing to me not only because of bright futures but also because (i think) it provides Ivy-level education.

you qualify for honors and you're second in your class, so you are pretty much a shoe-in (as long as you actually put some effort in your essay)

If you do a good application, and a good essay you're good (98%). Apply early. But don't think you're an automatic in and write the essay the night before.

mattheng: I know. I said early, not ED
