Chances?
Right now, of course

Class of 2009
Pretty rigorous school
UW GPA: Around 3.75/3.66 (too lazy to calculate)
W: 4.00/4.33

SAT2 Bio: 750
SAT2 lit: 760

SAT1: 2210

Been doing debate extensively all of my years in HS

Planning to apply to all of the UCs (CA resident), Emory, NWestern, maybe some others but those are the only sure ones right now.

No Quarter,

I think you stand a solid chance for acceptance. It's a small factor, but I think your California residency helps a bit since Emory is interested in maintaining its stature as a "nationally-recognized" university. Depending on years, the admitted freshman class is usually composed of only 7-9% students from the West Coast.

Here's the make-up of the most recent freshman class:

South 38%
Mid-Atlantic 20%
Midwest 11%
New England 7%
West 8%
Southwest 5%
International 11%

Also, as you may know, Emory's got a strong tradition in debate. (Emory University/Barkley Forum).

any more opinions?

Can you tell us more about your academic experience? In example, amount of AP courses taken and/or if you've taken any college courses, which ones. Also, be more specific. The 4.0/4.33 is confusing me, which one is it? With a 4.0 W, I'd say your chances are not that high, but a 4.33 is 60 percent. With your stats as of now, I'd say it's a slight reach.

Colleges, especially nationally recognized institutions like Emory, want students that are diverse and have a lot to offer. Of course, the Debate makes you distinctive, but just having one extracurricular in this day and age is not going to "how do you say" cut the mustard.

3 APs this year
Stats, Bio, USH

For the weighted question: How does Emory weigh stuff for GPA or do they look at UW?

Uw for just Soph/Junior look around 3.75 or 3.84 depending on what I get this year (kidna messed up Soph year). Weighted is 4.33, 4.5 depending on thsi year again.

Besides debate, I was a founding member of a student run non-profit company and volunteer a lot at a school in a poor area.

Man, oh man. I'd say you have a 75% chance. Leaving out those two extracurricular activities really was deceiving to me. Now, however, I feel that you definitely will stick out. From your ec's, it seems that you have a huge heart, and Emory will love that.

You should write your essay on how your extracurricular(volunteering in the poor town) affected you as a person. How it has changed you!!!! Colleges love to see these transitions.

haha thanks man. Just asking though since the year is not even close to being over, how will my chances drop if my GPA drops by a grade or too?

Dude,

Try and raise it, not drop it! A 4.0-4.333W is kind of average for Emory, so do not drop that, else your chances will drop.

To get a good idea go to CC's Stats section look up Emory class 2011 and peruse the statistic of people who got accepted and who got waitlisted or rejected. Like some other top schools it's really interesting who gets in and who doesn't. Looking at one kid rejected from Emory yet accepted and attending Amherst College. As much as we like to tell people on these forums "Yea" or "Nay" it is really a crap shoot with some many good kids applying to so many good schools.

Hmm yah. And I was asking just in case something happens.
