Interested in communications, anyone know anything about it at JMU? Thanks so much.

I have a sibling at JMU. JMU is notoriously GPA driven. How many students from your high school typically apply? Your GC will be able to tell you how many applied from your school last year, how many were accepted and what the average GPA of accepted students was. Pay close attention to these numbers. It could go either way with you. You may be waitlisted in favor of others from your school with a higher GPA. Your SAT's are perfectly fine...........very nice job there! However, JMU probably won't look at closely as that and don't count on your SAT's being a redeeming factor. They also don't give a hoot about the strength of your curriculum. I can tell you this.........I don't know a soul who goes to JMU that doesn't absolutely love it. It's a big, fun and friendly school. Lot's of partying though if that's your thing. JMU is RARELY anyones first choice. Make SURE that you have contacted and introduced yourself to your area rep. Let him/her know that JMU is your first choice. JMU is random. You are in George Mason, no sweat.

thanks for the info man, really appreciate it. fortunately, jmu isn't my first choice, in fact its more like my third or fourth. gmu, mizzou and south carolina are looking appealing to me (right now...could change, haha).

well, as for jmu, i can probably offer more insight than some on here seeing as i'm a current student here. i'm not so certain it's that "gpa" driven seeing as i got in with a 3.1. granted i also had an older sister go here and tons of extra curriculars. and i actually take soemthing of an offense to pedsox saying jmu is "rarely anyone's first choice." of all the people i know at jmu, there are really only a handful of students that didn't have jmu as their first choice. maybe it's rarely the first choice for people that don't go here, but i don't know. as for my friends in the communications deptarment, they all seem to enjoy it. i can't tell you of the quality of the courses though, but i recently heard something about a possible 5 year program for your bachelors and masters in communications being started (not certain). definitely call up the dean of the college though and ask around. if nothing else it may give you a contact further down the road.
