I feel like my ECs are terrible! I really only did things that I enjoyed, and on paper it really looks as though I didn't put much time into anything. I'm hoping to make up for this with spectacular essays- maybe I'll be able to explain myself? Anyway, any input that anybody has will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :]

in at all of them

You sound like a really interesting person. Try to show how interesting you really are. Yes, you can explain yourself, but don't apologize for yourself and your "terrible ecs." Be proud of what you do.

You will be fine at those universities (Duke's slightly risky). Have you thought about colleges higher on the ladder?

You will make it in at all of them (don't worry about Duke, they will most likely take you, and if not, Emory will (and will give you $$))

Great Chances at all...probably accepted at all. Duke is somewhat of a reach though (for anyone).

Thanks everyone! and jenkster - yes I have thought about colleges "higher on the ladder," but I really would like [or maybe my parents would like.. lol] to go to a college at least in the southeast so I'm not too far away from home. And it's been seeming like the really amazing colleges aren't too close to Georgia, so I don't know about that. And of course UGA is appealing because of HOPE, and I've thought about just going there for a year or two and possibloe transferring somewhere else.
Also, perhaps my ECs aren't terrible, but I feel like I don't have leadership in them! It seems like everyone wants people who are "captains" or "presidents" of their club or sport, or people who've founded stuff! And I'm none of those. Hopefully that'll be ok :]

I'm sorry, but no one knows your chances. people either guess or lie. PERIOD. Even if you ask admission officers, they don't know your chances.
I was a sure-admit for MIT because of certain awards, but then they realized what cou ntry I came from, and hoe ultra-competitive it was to be in an east asian country so I got rejected. So no one knows until you apply.

shes not International, hence the grey area of uncertainty that applied to you, doesnt apply as much to her. I believe she has really good stats, and if she can display passion, she ll be very hard to reject.

No international, from east asia or east europe for that matter, is ever a sure-admit for MIT...bascially because of their <4% admit rate.

I find it pretty offensive to say that those who predict chances are guessing or lying. I mean obviously, they arent professionals, but their opinion is very valuable. Some may be too generous, whilst others are very stingy, but theres no way that they are always guessing or lying. Most of them hypothesise...which is fair enough and about the only thing we can do for those that have yet to apply for college.

"I'm sorry, but no one knows your chances. people either guess or lie. PERIOD. Even if you ask admission officers, they don't know your chances"
But this is a chances thread, so we shall persist despite your wonderfully worded doubts.
