Chances?

All,

This is not about me but about another student I know whom is applying this fall. I have my own opinions and would like to hear yours. They are applying to Boston University, Boston College, Northwestern, University of Virginia, Georgetown, George Washington University, Lehigh, University of Texas - Austin, Rice University, Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and Duke.

SAT I: 450/490/490

SAT II: English Literature:530
Math: 520
History: 450
Japanese: 640

GPA: 3.9 (weighted), not top 10% (small [about 50 seniors] moderately competitive high school), probably top 15%-20%

Courseload: Decently heavy (6 AP courses total, only one with a score back and it's a 3 in World History...I would anticipate probably mostly 3s on the exams, maybe one or two 4s)

Activities: Decently strong: President of major student organization, varsity sports, weekly volunteering

Essays: I would anticipate they will be decently well-written.

Potentially interesting factors: Educated at English-speaking school (American citizen/native English speaker) abroad, half-Japanese

Thanks.

sorry. score are too low for all.

Thanks for the input. Do you think their profile will still be somewhat competitive at Wake now that Wake isn't requiring SAT scores?

i don't really know much about those schools.

Your friend didn't even break 1500 on the SAT's and did poorly on the subject tests.
They're all high reaches for your friend for the colleges he/she listed.
Maybe your friend should consider some state universities for a better chance.

Wake Forest does require SAT scores. I can't see why they won't, unless they take the ACT scores.

Overall, your friend will most definitely get rejected by all his/her schools listed. Tell him/her to apply to some CC's or State U's for a better chance.

@ Xcellerator:

WFU | Window on Wake Forest

Wow. Didn't really think Wake Forest made the ACT/SAT's optional.

Well, then I guess your friend has a decent shot for WF. He/she will still earn a rejection at every other school he/she listed other than WF.

Good luck to your friend though, ellebee.

Thanks. I already thought they'd need the good luck but I went to school a few years back and thought maybe I was just out of the loop and being a downer or something.

Good luck to you, too!
