are you black?
if so, you're in.
if not, you've still got a hell of a shot.

she's in regardless of her race.

Yes, I am black but that doesn't matter.

My biggest concern is Berkeley because the Social Sciences department acceptance rate is so low.

CR, you say 'she's in no matter what'.. they still reject nearly 15% of applicants with 3.8-4.0s.

MJgirl, that doesn't matter? why not, exactly?
if you don't think you get a boost for being an URM (+ 1st gen. college student), you're out of your mind.
that said, i'd be REALLY surprised if they didn't let you in.
i've got a friend doing his upper division in AA Studies at UCB right now. he's really proud of the program and often raves about his professors.
hope all goes well.
i'd say 'good luck', but i almost feel like 'congratulations' is more appropriate. :)

I believe she said it doesn't matter because she was asking if she was in based on her grades, not on the color of her skin.

the color of her skin is a totally relevant factor when being asked to provide an accurate prediction for her chances at admission, which, correct me if i'm wrong, is what she was asking.

wow way to pick up on the obvious genius that was why pink responded with

they do not know if you are black or white on your application unless you talk about it on your essays.

UCLA , average gpa of admits is 3.34 and admit rate is 58%.

I will say you are in at UCLA.

wait...
did you just make fun of me... by quoting me?

malishka, yeah they do. and they also know whether you're low income, first gen college student, first gen american.. because you filled it out, remember? in the scholorships section, i think.

That is optional.

AND that part was separate from the main app. There is a big shpiel on how they do not consider race, income, etc in making a decision.

fine, they don't consider 'race', but they do consider your status as an 'under represented minority', which is euphemistic for 'we consider your race'.

I was obviously speaking of the post above yours, Pink.

yes.
obviously.

ROFL grabs popcorn

1 on the popcorn. floyd is at it again.

floyd, if I get rejected from USC and get into CAL, one of the first things we're doing is getting a brew. I suspect that would entail a good time, haha.

word.
i hope you're into line dancing.
i know this great spot off shattuck..
though they won't let you in without spurs.
don't worry, i've got an extra pair.

obviously it isn't 100%. there is no 100%. the only 100% for certain is that something will happen.

so when i say she's in regardless of her race, i mean if i could place a bet, i'd place it all that she gets in. and i would win a lot of money.

If her race is not considered, I bet she's in. If her race is considered, I bet she's in. In other words, you have a great shot. Good luck.
