Chances?

Hey everyone, just found this site and just wana say it looks like quite the great resource, thanks for taking the time to view the thread aswell.

I'm a senior within a very highly ranked public high school in Alaska.

My unweighted graduation gpa is 3.77

-Sat score=2050
-First generation (Mom is stay at home after bad accident, stepdad is a plumber at our local univeristy)
- 4 Years of german, 4 years of german club- took a 3 week class trip to Germany a year ago
- 2 years of key club, 2 years of baseball, 2 years of cross country running, 3 years of track, 2 years of cross country skiing, 2 years of national honor society, 2 years of DECA, 1 year of Youth Court, 150 Volunteer hours at the zoo and hospital, Also took many afterschool classes at our career center (graduated a semester early)-

Have 4 teachers that will write letters of rec.

Only problem I have is that I didn't realize how important school was until my junior year- got a 3.5 freshman year and 3.44 sophmore year, after this I got a 4.0 for junior/senior years. I also did not realize how important community service and sport activites were, hence why most of them are only 2 years. I did however take honors for all my classes for freshman and sophmore years and took AP classes for junior/senior, Got 4's and 5's within AP.

I want to attend the University of Washington for its premed, and eventually its med school. This goal is not simply "more school" for me- this is a deep burning desire, something I will be proud of, and something I can declare I will be successful in. I'm hoping my excellent essay writing skills in combination with the desire to learn and succeed shown by my last 2 years will be enough to get me in, but what are your thoughts?

What percentage of getting in do you think I have?

Was a senior*

I'm sure you'd get in no problem as long as your essay is good. However, I'm not completely sure how it works out with their medical department if you have to apply to it again afterward, but if you're confident that you can make it in after attending, sure, why not?

Looks like you'll get in.

As for their med school, UW takes more of their own students/residents to their med school, so why not try to establish residency while attending the UW for undergrad?

Good luck(:

I would say you're in as well. Looking at your stats, I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble writing up an awesome personal statement. I don't know anything about the med school, so I can't help you out there. :)
