any advice would be greatly appreciated, although i already know i need to raise my gpa and sat!

anyone? :)

Id say you are in at UNC. Apply to some other top colleges as well.

thanks tarheelbound! anyone else?

I’d say don’t get your hopes up. Coming from a wealthy part of wake county myself I know how hard it can be to get into UNC. I had friends with 1900+ SAT and GPA well above 4.0 who didn’t get in. Your competitive school district will definitely work against you unless you’re one of the top few kids in your class. Unless you absolutely didn’t try the first time on your SAT going from 1780 to 2000+ will probably be a stretch, although it is the right goal. Your extracurriculars are perfect. UNC loves athletes who are involved in other extracurriculars. I’m not saying its impossible, you did good by scheduling a strong course load for senior year, and if you write good essays both will go really good in your favor.

So in short, raise your SAT and GPA as high as possible and write your essays very well. that is how you will give yourself your best shot. Everything else looks great.

I agree that for applicants in competitive districts of NC, class rank and GPA are extremely important. At my Wake County high school (which sends about 50 students to Carolina each year), basically the top 10% are accepted, plus a few other outstanding students with a lower rank, but not many others.

You’re in.

Thanks for the replies! I live like 1 minute from the campus and I really like it! I’m def. going to raise my gpa and sat score. Oh and pkp20, I didn’t really try on my first sat, so I’m hoping I can bring it up!

Your biggest weakness is your current SAT score (and to a less extent, your GPA). Your ECs are strong, though, but still try to raise your SAT.

Yes I’m definitely going to try to raise my sat score

oh, and does UNC require people to take a sat subject test in math? (if you’re not in an ap math class)

yeah you need to take the math II subject test if you don’t have calc credit.

You would take the math level 2 subject test after you’ve been excepted, right?

Just a question. You can take SAT II’s fall of senior year before applying right? They dont have to be in junior year

^^yea, i’m pretty sure you can. my problem is that i’m in algebra 2 this year, and on the subject test math level 2 it has precal on it. so, taking the subject test early senior year won’t really help me since i will have just barely started precal. so does anyone know how this works out? i’ve already taken math level 1…will they just accept that?

Yes, I am in the same boat as you. Junior in Algebra II. Im probably going to do Pre-Cal and Trig next year or maybe College Algebra/College Trig. The latter is 1 course., a semester of each. This stinks. Best bet is to order some sort of SAT II Prep?

that would be so weird though…just to make kids take SAT math level 2 who aren’t even that far along in precal.
