Chances!!!

I am sooooooo nervous, I REALLY want to go to this school. UW is my only choice- its either UW Seattle or community college and then hopefully transfer to the UW.

Stats:
-Caucasian
-In-state
-GPA: 3.96 UW (school doesn't weight) Private High School for 9-11, now in a community college in Washington State full time for Running Start
-ACT: 28 Composite (English: 32 Math: 27 forgot the others :P)
-Extracurriculars:
1) Taekwondo: (9,10,11,12)-- Black belt, won a few tournaments
2) Community Service for Senior Citizens: (9,10,11,12)-- Won a state award for excellence in community service to seniors
3) Caretaker for children with mental disabilities (9,10,11,12)-- Paying job taking care of children with autism, sponsored by the state, etc.

5) Debate, Lead America, DECA: (11,12) Several awards, started a debate club

-Essay: Good enough, nothing special
-First generation to go to college
-AP: US Hist 4
US Gov/Pol 4
World History 3
- Took a pretty rigorous schedule in relation to what was offered at my school
- Took three college classes at the UW over the summer:
1) Precalc- 3.9
2) Intro to Comp Politics- 3.6
3) Microecon- 3.4

So yeah what are my chances? Thanks!

BTW I applied by the Dec 1st priority deadline, if that means anything.

There’s no way that they are going to deny you.

You’re in.

Wow, thank you so much! Are you sure I shouldn’t retake my ACT and shoot for a 30 on Dec 12? I’m a little nervous my comp score is too low.

A 28 on the ACT is like a 1260 (CR+M) on the SAT. The average for UW-Seattle is around a 1200 (CR+M) so you are already above average. Anyways, test scores are not the most important. GPA (which you have), rigor of classes (which you have), and the writing section of the application are the most important parts of the application. The fact that you maintain such a high GPA with the tough courses you are taking as well as the multiple LONG term activities you participate in will get you into UW. Also the fact that you are first generation will also work in your favor. I’m also first generation and I know how hard it is when you cannot follow anyone’s example. I mentioned this in my essay and if you did that too it would work in your favor. You can take the ACT again but you have nothing to worry about.

Thank you so much! Any others?

What other opinions? You’re in period

Ah, thanks guys! So anyway, I turned in my application just an hour or so before midnight last night (procastination :P) and I am wondering when exactly do you think I’ll get a letter from them on whether or not I got accepted? Is the fact that I turned my app in on Dec. 1 going to throw me out of the priority application pile?

Are you serious? You’ve got to get in.

In the letter they send you for the MyUW account (expect it Friday or early next week), it states that a small number of decisions are made November-February. Most are made in March though.

Priority deadline doesn’t mean much really, it’s more significant for the Honors program. If you’re really worried about being in that particular “pile” though, you still submitted on December 1st, so you will be in there regardless.

You will also be admitted into the school regardless. You’re in-state with a 3.9, enough said.

Well, actually, I’m a bit nervous about my rigor. Is anyone willing to look at the courses I took and see if it’s rigorous enough for the UW??? I’m sooooo nervous!!

you are over-reacting…relax, like everyone else already said, you have nothing to worry about.

i’d saw in because of GPA and maybe ACT (I don’t know much about it)
