GPA- 3.0
SAT- 1690: M-540, Crit-600, W-550 (retake in October, should get in the 1800s)
4years of baseball

Keep in mind I go to a very competative HS where failing is a 75%.

Hi NYCKid93,

I’m no expert, but I’ve been watching these posts for some time and have a son who will be starting his freshman year at UConn this Friday. I’m assuming that by your screenname you, like me, are not in-state. That means that the qualifications to get in might be a little tougher for you. Great to see the Crit-600. Even better to see the M approach or get to the 600 level, if possible. In addition, it’s important to know whether the 3.0 is from any advanced placement or greater difficulty courses or not. The admissions dept will undoubtedly know that your high school is competitive and adjust accordingly. However, 3.0 won’t stand you out from the pack, so try to pull that up a bit. Many students who attend UConn have played sports (though not all), so while the four years of baseball is good, it’s not a definite ticket in.

My best advice to you is to write an incredible essay, think about what you have done to demonstrate leadership or other important character traits to supplement your time in baseball, and bring up the SAT scores as best as you can. UConn has become very competitive, but you stand a good shot if you put your ‘nose to the grindstone’ this next semester. Good luck!

Assuming your GPA is staying the same, if you can raise those SAT scores, you will have a much better chance.
