well i knew that i wanted a smallish college in new england, w/ a nice campus feel and sense of community also i really wanna study abroad, to more than one place and dartmouth allows for studying abroad for up to 3 times. also, when i vistited i LOVED it. it was really between williams and dartmouth. and i picked dartmouth. y do u ask, does my choice seem unusual?

I think you are a strong candidate for all of those schools. Dart, Williams and Amherst are probably the toughest, but they may value your URM status more than most, since you are in line with their average student stats.

In at all. Your SAT scores alone place you among the top 150 African-American female candidates in the country, and you have a lot more going for you than just SAT scores.

As far as your stats are concerned, you are definitely in range of all the schools that you've mentioned. BTW, what is your class rank? To be honest, I would not be surprised if I were you if you get accepted at all of those schools. Specifically, at small LACs like Bowdoin, Amherst, Williams, Vassar, etc., urm status is important to them. I definitely know that at Bowdoin, Vassar, and Amherst it is because last year, they actively tried to recruit me to come to campus and matriculate at their institutions.

If you decide to ED at Dartmouth, that's a good option. Just make sure that Dartmouth is the school that you highly desire to go to over others. Also, make sure to write a really great essay. Good Luck.

I asked b/c I think you'd be able to get into higher level Ivy League schools (i.e. Princeton, Harvard, Yale). I'd recommend giving those a look before you apply early to Dartmouth.

Don't agree. If you really like Dartmouth, you likely WON'T like Harvard or Yale - they are that different. But you will like Williams (very, very similar), and Bowdoin. Cornell is similar in how rural it is, but it is so much larger that you may want to look carefully.

thanks for the input guys. sdma, my school doesnt have class rank. and i actually live way too close to princeton (about 5 minutes away) to ever wanna go there. i vistited yale already, and i wasnt really into it. i've never considered harvard b/c i dont think it'd be that great a fit for me. mini, i actually did look at williams and loved it. i was debating between the two schools for a while and finally decided on dartmouth.
