I know that I don't have a huge amount of extracurriculars. I've essentially done what I like and what I'm good at. However, I'm a very good writer and I think my essays will "bring life" to my applications. Also, I chose teachers to write my recommendations who like, enjoy, and respect me as a person.

Please chance me at the following schools:

Pomona
Brown
Vassar
Wesleyan
Macalester
Carleton
University of Chicago
Reed
Williams
Swarthmore
Harvard (legacy)
NYU
Stanford

Thanks!

Bump

Specifically, do you think my unweighted GPA (I get basically 70% A-'s 20% A's 10% A+'s) will hurt me?

Also, is my lack of a large array of coherent activities going to hurt me?

Please chance!

Please!

Harvard & Stanford are the only two which might waitlist or reject you, in my opinion. The other schools tend to be quite liberal & will be a comfortable match for you. Princeton is actively seeking gay leaders, so that would have been a viable option for you.

NYU seems like a safety. Harvard and Stanford are just too capricious in choosing their applicants to predict, but you have no glaring faults that they would auto-turn-down for. Brown and Pomona are probably matches for you.

It's not exactly fair to assume that the OP's position as president of a GSA makes him automatically gay, but anyhow...

I don't think your extracurriculars will be a problem. It may look like a short list, but if your ECs take plenty of time and dedication they will likely serve you better than a ton of pointless club memberships.

Thanks for the positive response mflevity!

And while I agree with your sentiment, I actually am gay. But I don't think that my sexual orientation should rely have any influence in the college admissions process.

Hey, I just found this thread (a few months too late). But interestingly, we had essentially the exact same grades/test scores/type of high school, and we applied to a lot of the same places. I'm actually going to Pomona next year; how about you? What'd you end up deciding on?
