Chancing for Admission

Class of 2009, why do it?

Ok listen everybody, it is understandable why juniors and other younger high school students would want to use College Confidential as a means to post their profile on various college forums, and get chanced by other people as to whether or not they believe that that student could into whatever schools they are applying to. However, there is one flaw....

NO ONE KNOWS WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE GOING TO GET INTO THE COLLEGE THAT YOU ARE APPLYING TO!!!!

Granted, there are some people that may have a very good idea as to whether or not you will get accepted into the school of your choice, but they are still not 100% reliable sources. People, especially you young high-schoolers with big ideas and dreams, cannot let what people say about your chances of admission on College Confidential affect whether or not you apply to a particular school.

Although it is always smart to have at least one or two safety schools, apply where you really want to go, and where you could see yourself living and developing as an individual for the next four years. Go to a school that offers majors/minors in what you are interested in. Don't just go to a school because you will "definitely" get in. Even if 500 people on college confidential post on your thread saying that you have no chance at a particular school, or that your grades suck...ignore them. Don't become disappointed.

I am a member of the high school graduating class of 2009. Everyone should get off of their butts and complete their applications and send them in. Now is not the time to be getting yourself "chanced" by other members on College Confidential. Everyone else who is a member of this year's class should NOT be basing where they apply on where they "think that they could get in." You would be surprised what can happen sometimes.

So I'm done here typing about chancing yourself for admission to a particular college. Point being...Seniors...Its pointless

People don't base their decision to apply somewhere on the results of a chances thread. And also, CC definitely isn't the place where you will find people who "want" to go to schools just because they'll definitely get in.

And now I'd like to direct you to the search function, where you could easily find countless other threads just like this one.

actually rockermcr you would be surprised. I would like to direct you to the search function where you can find thousand of threads about people asking whether or not they will get into a school cause they aren't sure if it is worth applying.

My point being, apply if you want to go there and if you could see yourself there for the next four years. Don't base your decision on the mere opinions of strangers.

I haven't posted a "Chance me!" thread on CC, but I have on other websites, simply because I want to get an idea where I stand. If I realize that my first choice is a huge reach, I won't be as crushed if/when I get that thin letter, and I might decide not to bother applying and save myself $50-$100. If I know one school is likely to take me, I'll consider it a safety school, and I'll have it on my mind if I get more rejection letters than I planned for. And sure, nobody really knows whether a specific person will get into a specific college, but there are some ways to get a good idea. If you have a 3.5 and a 1800 SAT, you should get into your local state school, but not Harvard. If you're class valedictorian and got a 3.9, you DO have a chance at Harvard. Get the idea? Obviously it's more subtle than that, but others' opinions really can help, especially if they have experience with a certain college or simply have accessed information the OP hasn't been able to find.

...true. lol.

still, it's nice to get a confidence boost sometimes or the contrary :(. some use the thread as an act to of arrogance whereas others are simply just desperate. like you said, it's all upto the admissioners anyways.

No Anagrampanda. I'll agree with everything you said except for one thing. You have no judgement as to what GPA will get you into which school. My 3.5 could be equivalent to your 3.9, because my school might be much more challenging than yours and my 3.5 is the top 5% in the class. You see what I mean? That is where the adcom comes in and plays in that factor.

Ergo, essentially everyone DOES have a chance at any school they want to go to. You're that guy on CC that I was referring to in my original post. You would shut people down because their uwGPA is lower than yours. But for all you know, they could be working their ass of 24/7 and saving a third world country. Meanwhile, you never have any hw, and you sleep during your free time. You got me AnagramPanda?

lake144, I wanted to thank you for pointing that out!
