I don't get it. There are just so many excited prospective students posting SO many 'chance' threads, with the titles streaming just so many exclamation marks. What's the idea behind all of this 'chancing'? Does it actually turn out to be correct?

The idea behind it is to receive feedback on whether or not the poster could be admitted to the schools of his/her choice based on his stats. Most of the students who put up those [obnoxious] threads have stellar stats, so you’d think their positive feedback would be pretty accurate. Unless they’re applying to an ivy, then who knows.

And if they are applying to an Ivy and have stellar stats, they could just roll a pair of dice even=accept odd=deny and get the same level of accuracy no matter who is doing the “chancing”.

It helps deal with your anxiety, if people say you have a shot. Sometimes it is good/realistic advice as well.

Shameless promotion would be if I posted a link to my thread lolz.

I posted a chance thread and I completely understand why so many kids do this. I got excited when I saw a match next to all of the top 20 colleges I listed, until I realized that half of those kids were just looking to get the same kind of feedback on their pages.

Bottom line, it’s just a way for insecure kids to not blow their brains out over this process. I realized it’s a complete scam, but for those who it helps, then good for them.

Dealing with insecurity? Nice one!
