I feel that, as the college chosen for this subforum gets more and more prestigious, the whole idea of "chancing" becomes more and more questionable. o-o" How can one expect other HIGH SCHOOL students, not even college students, to give him an accurate depiction of his chances when they have no relation with or understanding of admissions offices that reject 93/100 applicants?

After all, what is in your checklist for a likely candidate of prestigious universities like Stanford, Yale, and Harvard? Perfect SAT score? Valedictorian? President of various clubs? Hundreds of hours of community service? To be honest, I still don't understand how those things equate a likely chance of admission. Kids like that get waitlisted/rejected all the time; I know personally that it's true for my high school. What about the element of personality gained from your essays? For prestigious universities, isn't that also very important? How does one express that in a chancing thread?

I applied Early to Stanford, and I'm ridiculously nervous knowing that I'm trying to be selected from a pool of so many talented and competitive students. To hear the confidence of members who believe they have enough knowledge to chance others for such prestigious universities is very strange to me. For those shooting for the big names, is this subforum more for gaining reassurance? fishing out compliments? boosting ego? destroying other people's ego? Because, unless admissions officers or people related to them frequent this forum, I don't see how I can receive legitimate "chances" from my peers.
