Schools (a chance out of 10 or a percentage would be great):
Princeton
Stanford
Columbia
Cornell
NYU Stern

For Princeton and Stanford, please ignore atrocious freshman year grades because they don't look at them.

Most of my community service hours came from tutoring and helping out students in one way or another (tutoring subjects, guitar, English (summer job as well as abroad), science projects (I gave leadership roles to different students and helped teach them how to do it well)). I also pursued a business (my career choice), which was in line with my community service (eco-friendly; only one in the city). I hope I made that clear to adcoms.

Also, should I send them a follow up letter stating the number of community service hours just so they know, in case they only give a cursory look to the number of hours and number of weeks on the application? Would it also reiterate my interest in the schools?

Thank you very much! I will chance back.

You have a very good chance at those schools.

Despite my freshman grades?

Freshman grades are the year that count the least, so you have a great chance at all of these schools. Good luck :)

Chance me?

I hope so because I got rejected ED from Wharton but I got accepted to UMich.

Very impressive grades and scores. However, your double-whammy ORM+International applicant will most likely hurt you. Good luck.

Dude - Strong upward trend…

Thank you. I’m just a little worried about those schools because I got rejected from Wharton.

Bump! Any other opinions?

Princeton - Reject
Stanford - Reject
Columbia - Reject
Cornell - Accept
NYU Stern - Accept (undoubtedly)

Thanks for your chances. Curious to know why you think I will be rejected and not even waitlisted at the first 3?

You’re from HK, a region more competitive than any other barring Singapore. Without an international distinction, it seems very unlikely that you will have anything close to a decent chance at any of Princeton, Columbia and Stanford. Stern is a safety for you though, and Cornell should be a match.

I wish you the best of luck however, I don’t feel your chances at Stanford or Princeton are good. How do you stand out from the other applicants? I don’t see how you stand out from your chance me post.

Alright thanks. I suppose there is some truth to that statement as there have been 5 admits to HYPS over the last 4 years from my school and 3 of them had national/international achievements. Here’s to hoping that I am in the same boat as the 2 who got in without them.

StanfordCS, I had 1500 hours of community service at the time of my application. From what I’ve heard on this board that is quite an achievement.

My summer job was also at a prestigious program (ranked in the top 10 internationally for high school internships). I don’t know how pertinent this is but I know 2 other Indians who went to my school before me, who also were part of the program, and both were accepted to the Jerome Fisher program at Wharton. Their objective statistics were very similar to mine, except they did well in freshman year (which evidently I did not), and they were both vice-presidents of my class.

StanfordCS is UChicago2016. Ignore his foolish comments. You do stand out. Just not in a traditional way. It could go either way, but remember your chances aren’t even 50/50 at S and P. Columbia could go either way too, but I predict rejection based on what I’ve seen in the past.

Thanks a lot iamanapp. I truly appreciate the honesty.
