chancing~?

i've been seeing threads sprasely about, for chancing - so i might as well take up on it. sorry if it's long - just wanted to provide enough information to get a full response. if i can get anyone who applied as my major to reply, with any words of wisdom - that'd also be great.

ENGLISH MAJOR (w/ interest in PSYCH MINOR)
3.76 GPA (do fall grades account for GPA, as well?)
ECs: none too exciting or great, honestly. in terms for my major - i've done a lot of library volunteering, read-alongs for little kids, tutoring kids from middle school to high school in all sorts of subjects, though i do a more prominent job in English (helping with reading skills, writing skills, that sort of thing). so in general - i'm disappointing in this area.

i was thinking of going for my CC's newspaper, but that's more writing journalism than what i want to do, which is an editor. also i don't know if it would be worth enrolling in the class to get into the newspaper, 'cause i'll be done with my personal statement by November, so i don't know if i could rack up much experience...
IGETC COMPLETE
PRE-REQs COMPLETE, BY SPRING 2011 (except one, SPANISH PRE-REQ - and if that's not done, am i screwed?)
ESSAY - i'm a little worried because of my lack of experience, so...
CANNOT TAG (@UCI, 'cause of AP Creds being excluded)
APPLYING TO: UCI (want, badly), UCLA (though i don't see LA being very likely, but couldn't hurt to try)
EXTRA INFO: i blundered my first semester at CC with two Bs - in Phil and a Stats class. i have no excuses - just that i sucked in them. all other classes from that semester, to the next - A's. so i'm concerned this might affect admissions decisions, as well.

thanks everyone!

I hope you TAP’d that real good

I think you have a good shot. Just keep your grades phenomenal and they’ll see you have an upward trend :)

Hey, I’m an English major as well. I have tons to say about this but my brain is soup at the moment…feel free to PM me, I’d love to help. :)

If you’re an English major then Irvine would be great!

I do agree that you should consider TAP but UCLA doesn’t sound like your first choice, although it’s good to have backups. Oh and just so you know, there’s no Psychology minor offered at UCLA. I think the closest is the Developmental Psych minor but that’s all. Just so you know!

Good luck next year! Don’t stress too much!
