Chanes for next year ed?

Hi,
i attend a top 60 US public high school.
my gpa freshman and sophmore year was very very bad, however this year i have all As (honors/aps, 1standard) and plan to get the same grades next year.
i got a 198 on psats(80math).

i am heavily involved in engineering-
officer of both science olympiad and engineering club (founded it),
founding president of first robotics club
6th place national science olympiad, many many medals
1st place national TSA electronic research project(awards at all competitions)
mualpha theta- founding member
also doing research and a siemens-westinghouse project this summer
heavily involved in robotic combat projects (on my own) many east coast awards

the only reason i believe i have a chance is because a parent is a professor at princeton. will this combined with my upward highschool trend, engineering hook, and faculty tip be enough for an ED admittance?

you seem qualified enough, and definitely have good hooks. definitely do your best with grades and SATs this year.

so many qualified people apply to all the ivies that its always tough to say what they are looking for. i'd say apply to princeton if it's where you want to go, and show them in your application that you really want to go to princeton and would be a valuable student.

founding those new things will definitely help. im relying on a lot of that for my acceptance this year...my sat was a 1350. 194 psat isnt bad...u shud get at least 1450 real one i expect. gd luck!

psats totally got my hopes up for my SAT score. i got a 225, so was expecting pretty high on my SATs. i got a 1400 (yeah i'm not complaining don't worry) twice in a row! plus i missed the same pattern of questions. by that i mean both tests i missed the same amount of questions in all the sections. it was wierd. hey at least i'm consistent though.

Brin up your SAT's. Strive to break 1450 at least, or a 1500. Of course, SAT's are NOT all THAT important so if you do end up getting a lower score, make sure the rest of your applications don't show that weakness. but the most important thing of admission is honesty. Present yourself, your good sides, some of your bad sides, your aspiration, as well as your fears. I was brutally honest with Princeton and i got in. Also, try to move to alaska, itll help you a ton. jk, but not really.

There is no such thing as an engineering hook, i don' t think. A Hook is something you can't really control, i thgouth. URM, Born Genius in some particular field, Athletetic Recruiting, errrr, Siemens finalist, or something like that. As amazing as your EC's are and those will DEFINITELY help you, it still isn't really a hook.

your rank is more important than your GPA. But then again, you show an upward trend.

Dad works at Princeton? That's likea guaranteed in, isn't it? idk.

I was brutally honest with Princeton and i got in.

i give props to you. i tried to do the same. my biggest petpieve is people to mis-represent themselves to try and get into a college. IMO adcoms can see right through that and will look down upon it.

Thanks for the help guys.
My school doesn't rank (although it's extremely competitive, i could see a lot of rivalery if it did).
I'm studying for the sats now, and trying to work on the new essay section.

if ur parent is a professor u are in lol. basically how ivies work =D that is why princeton high school has so many acceptees each year....all the professors' kids go there

i actually live in philadelphia, so i dont quite have the community advantage like pton high.
shrek iirc correctly you were admitted to princeton? congratulations!!
oh, and your current post count is elite hehehe 1337

If you want to see "elite," look at zantedeschia's.

Would a 194 PSAT really yield a possible 1400 SAT? I was thinking my S would get in the 1300s with a 197 PSAT. I hope you are right!!!!

well multiply math/verbal by 10 and you sould have close to (or less than?) the sat equivelent.
i'll be taking the new sats in march so we have the essay (essentially satii writing added).

i got 214, and a 1340...gonna retake though

SAT scores usually go up a lot, for a lot of people. People don't always do as well as they could on the PSATs because they need some time to adjust to that kind of test. You never know what to expect on the SAT after the PSAT. That multiply by 10 thing does NOT work. Take lots of practice tests, and then maybe you could multiply by 10 then add 200 hundred points on top of that when you get around to taking the real SAT.

PSATs dont really mean anything. my friend got a 187 and then got a 1580 and a 800 writing so....

yep hyp thx! hehe i think u have a shot tho. they dont look at freshman grades so thats a benefit =D

My sat scores was 250 points higher than what the PSAT said it would be. Screw it. I didn't even qualify for the nmstl or something like taht... If I had done the PSAT how I did on my real tests, I would have gotten a 226.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but is being an All-State/ All- Eastern singer a hook?

its not a hook but it is a plus. put that on ur application.

hobbes, why are you trying so hard to belittle your achievements. You got in cuz you deserved it mate :p

Most of my friends last year reported getting a higher-than 10x equivelent on their sats. A close friend of mine this year scored a 240, so i will be very suprised if he can pull off a better than 10x on his sats;)
