Change in Major-From Management Science to Human Development

Hopefully there are people out there who can offer some advice!
I will be attending UCSD this fall as a major in management science. However, I would like to change my major to Human Development. I've done some research and found that there are prerequisites I must complete before I can declare Human Development as my major. Most of my recommended courses for the fall coincide with the pre-human development major requirements. Using VAC, I asked whether I should change my major from Management Science to undeclared or pre-human development. The counselor replied, saying I should leave my major as is and should speak to the department adviser before I make the change. Is it necessary for me to speak to a department adviser? Are there are any human development majors out there who can help me? Also, I'd like to know if I should sign up for HDP1 (which is only offered once a year in the fall)? By doing so, I would not be taking Econ 1 which was recommended.

Sorry for the long paragraph, but thanks to those who read through it! Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Now, I don’t know anything about pre-majors like this, but it seems like they gave you a generic response. I would definitely recommend speaking to a department advisor, but in the meantime, I would also sign up for HPD 1. You don’t have to change your major to take that class, so it’s ok.

Thank you! I actually took a look at the 4-year plan from the HDP website. Apparently, it’ll be alright for me to take HDP 1 in my second year if I don’t decide to take it for Fall '10. I will definitely speak with the department advisor then. thanks again
