Human Development major

Hello, I am going to be a sophomore this year and I was thinking about switching my major to Human Development. I was originally going to major in Biological Science but I haven’t been able to pass Calculus even after taking it for the 2nd time. I was hoping to find a major that involved Biology without requiring me to take Calculus and can provide good jobs in the future, also. Would a HDE major accomplish this? What is the underlying purpose of this major? What careers are possible if I graduate Davis with a B.Sc in Human Development?
My first plan was to get a B.Sc in Bio Sci and work in a lab or something of that sort, would a major in HDE still enable me to do that? I was thinking of minoring in Bio Sci if I chose HDE as my major, would that be a good choice? And how are the professors/courses?

Thank you for your time.

idk about the major itself, but have you tried the 16 series?

it’ll do for all of the 9 majors under the college of biosci. :slight_smile: it’s also HELLA easier than both the 17 and 21 series…

just putting that out there.

@sutoroberrii:
Are you sure about that? I don’t know about all of the majors, but I was told only 17A-B-C would be acceptable at orientation. Its also in the books.

… it looks like they changed the requirements for you guys? :/

because it was OK for me to take the 16 series; my major advisor OK’d my schedule.

hm.

i should add that my old course catalog said that it was fine to take the 16 series. guess they upped the ante…

^ Is it possible to take 16A and then switch to the 17 or 21 series?

@ sutoroberrii: I did take the 16 series. It sucks that my weakest subject is getting in the way of my strongest subject.

Check the General Catalog - if you start taking one section of another calculus series, and then switch, you may run into credit conflicts - aka you won’t get credit for some classes, or may not be allowed to start another series. This applies to the class of 2014 though.
