Change major to nursing as a transfer at UCI

After my conflict on whether or not I wanted to stay home or go ahead with my enrollment at Cal Poly SLO, I decided to stay home and attend a California Community College.

I am now planning to transfer to UC Irvine as a Biological Sciences major with a focus on biochemistry! However, I was wondering if anyone had experience changing their major to nursing once they get to UC Irvine. I plan to TAG and I’m torn between nursing and biochemistry, and UCI doesn’t accept nursing for TAG.

My stats as of right now is a 4.0 GPA, I’ve been a volunteer at Stanford for awhile now, and I am currently taking some of the nursing classes that also correspond to my GEs so if I do plan to switch, I’d have some of the lower division classes done. Hopefully my GPA doesn’t go down, but community college has been so much easier than high school in my opinion.

As a transfer student, you would need to apply for the BSN Nursing program as a direct admit. Once you are at UCI, you could not do a change of major request until the following year since they only accept Nursing students in the Fall term.

Fall 2018 transfer applicants: 98
Fall 2018 transfer admissions: 21 (21% admitted)
Average cumulative GPA: 3.75
Cumulative GPA range of admissions: 3.49 – 4.00

you should check with UCI to see if this is even possible. From a quick glance at their website it sounds like they take people in as frosh or juniors. When you enter UCI you’d already be a junior, so it would be too late to switch.

If nursing is what you want at UCI then look at the xfer requirements at https://nursing.uci.edu/admissions/bs-admissions/
