I’m currently a freshman CSE major under ICS and am attempting to change my major to biomedical engineering-premed. I understand that I have to complete the UC change of major requirements. I’m also familiar with these requirements.
What I’m hoping to get an opinion for is if I should still take the classes for CSE – more specifically, should I still take CSE 41?
The following is my current class load:
Math 2B
Physics2
CSE41
Anthro41A
The following is the schedule I’m working on getting by the end of this week:
Math 2B
Physics2
Chem1A
*CSE41
I was hoping I could drop CSE 41 instead of Anthro41A, but outside opinion would be nice regarding this…
The following is the classes I need to complete (in addition to maintaining a 3.5 GPA) and hope to complete by the end of summer 2016 at the latest:
Prof. Kay’s Intro to Python class is pretty easy and programming is a useful skill anyone should have. If you do the homework and try some of the [practice midterms](ICS 31 Quizzes and Midterms) you’re practically guaranteed an A. The only people I saw who had trouble didn’t do the work and/or let their partners do all the work instead of trying some of it themselves.
If these are the courses you need to take:
BME1
Math2A-B-D
Physics 7C-D, Physics 7LC-LD
Chem 1A-B-C, Chem 1LC
Then, in my opinion, you should lower your course load and focus on them. You say your a freshmen so I’m making an assumption that Fall quarter will be your first quarter in college (please correct me if I’m wrong). College rigor is a lot more difficult than high school, especially classes like Math 2B. To give yourself the best chance of success I’d lower your course load and focus on the classes you NEED to take to change majors. I’d actually do just them and nothing more, I mean overall you might do what, 8-12 less units in a year? I just did 12 units in 5 weeks in SS2, so you could stick around 5 extra weeks and make up the units like that AFTER changing majors. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! ZOT!
