Changing colleges/majors at Cal Poly SLO?

So I’ve done some reading on changing majors at slo and from what I’ve seen, it’s more difficult to change to another college at slo. I just want to know if it’s possible. I want to attend slo, but I hear you have one chance at changing and if you don’t get in, it’s no longer possible (and your best bet is to transfer to another school)…

I’ve recently been accepted to cal poly under Business Admin at their business college, however, I’ve discovered my passion for studying biology while taking apbio this past year.

I was wondering is it possible for me to change my major from Business Admin to Biological Sciences. And if so, should I do it before the fall term? Call them now? Or go through my freshman year taking regular GEs and whatever is required from Business Admin all while taking additional classes necessary for Biological Science? How difficult is it to change between colleges at slo? Who should I be speaking to (if I end up going to slo) and still want to change to a bio major?

If my end goal is to attend med-school (my original plan was to do BA, get my masters while taking bio necessary classes and then go to med-school, that way I’d have knowledge in business and bio if I ever wanted to open my own practice) should I be focused on changing my major right away before my freshman fall term? or go with my original plan?

Thank you for your time and advice! :)

I have been in the same situation as you ever since i got my response. After posting all over the place and calling people, i have learned that it is definitely possible and lots of people have done it. The only time you are blocked from ever changing into that major is if you fail the ICMA or something agreement. You take specific courses and maitain a certain gpa in them and you are granted a change of major. So yes it is definitely possible but only after 1 full quarter. Good luck!

It’s definitely not impossible. Just get started on the switch asap and meet the necessary requirements to change into the major. These are achievable as long as you work hard. You should go to the college of math and science advising center to get started on changing your major. Or if you decide to go to SLO and go to SOAR over the summer, there will be someone there who can help you.
